James A. Hubley

YORK James A. Hubley, 93, of Springettsbury Township, died at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Manor Care Health ServicesKingston Court. He was the husband of the late Doris Lorene (Welsh) Hubley. Prior to her death on January 16, 1998, Mr. and Mrs. Hubley had been married for 60 years. Born March 29, 1915, in York, he was the son of the late Franklin V. and Helen (Ostendorf) Hubley. Jim was a newspaper reporter for the former York Gazette and Daily and the York Daily Record from 1940 until he retired in 1979. Following his retirement, he continued until this past week writing articles for his column which appeared in the York Daily Record. Jim was a 19M32 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. He attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church and was a member of the York County Heritage Trust and the local chapter of The Newspaper Guild. He is survived by two daughters, S. Kay Garling of York, and C. Sue and her husband, Francis A. Marcri of Bethlehem; four grandchildren, Ronald E. Garling, Jr., Julie G. Corpe, Doug A. Garling, and Scipio Garling; and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 25, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, with Pastor Lori A. Cale officiating. A visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the church. Jim's wishes were that his body be donated to Humanity Gifts Registry for medical science research. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, PA 17403. The Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1111 E.
