Janet Ickes Obituary
York - Janet A. (Poet) Ickes, 91, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Eugene M. Ickes, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Ickes was born in York, December 21, 1929, daughter of the late Lester and Evelyn (Ferree) Poet.
Janet was a graduate of William Penn High School. She was employed as a Cafeteria Supervisor for the West York School District.
She was a member of Dover United Church of Christ; Beta Sigma Phi PA Epsilon Master Chapter, York County Retired School Employees, and the Shiloh American Legion Post 791.
Janet enjoyed the special time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; traveling; and humming birds.
Survivors include two daughters, Vickie M. Pearl of Delaware and Brenda L. Tucker of Louisiana; three grandchildren, Joy Clifford, Pamela Tucker and Melissa Fruge; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joan Axe of York.
Funeral service will be private; there will be a live stream of the service at approximately 1 p.m., Friday on the church FaceBook page, Dover United Church of Christ. There will be a public graveside service held 3 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021 in Mount Rose Cemetery, 1502 Mount Rose Ave., York, PA 17403. Those planning to attend, please meet at the front gate at 2:45 p.m. We will proceed to the gravesite together.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Fisher House, 116 Purple Heart Drive, Dover AFB, DE 19902 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, 10150 Highland Manor Drive, Suite 330, Tampa, FL 33610.
