Melvin Roland Dell, 77, passed away Thursday, September 15 at his home, surrounded by his family. Melvin was born February 6th, 1939 in Bentley Springs, Md. to Roland and Verma (Taylor) Dell. On March 8, 1960 he married Tamara Bailey of Railroad Pa.
Over the years Melvin worked numerous jobs (bartender, bus driver, and umpire) to provide a good life for his wife and children. He worked for Amp Inc. (25 years) and later for JDG landscaping (15 years). When Melvin was young he played and coached for many baseball and softball teams. Throughout his life he has always been an avid hunter and pool shooter. In his later years he played golf with his brother, sons and close friends. He was a member of the Red Lion Elks Club #1592. No matter what, he always enjoyed working outside, spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends, plus watching the Yankees and Colts.
Melvin is survived by his wife Tamara; daughters, Jacqueline (spouse, Dana) Shearer of Yoe, Michele Carbaugh (fiancé, Doug Ward) of Shrewsbury; sons, Michael (spouse, Grace) Dell of Felton, Marc (spouse, Beth) Dell of Glen Rock; grandchildren, Kirsten Kemper, Tyler Dell, and Ashleigh Dell; sisters, Mary Esther Snyder, Helen Hudson; brother, Marlin (spouse, Cindy) Dell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Roland and Verma Dell; brothers, Dennis, Gary and Ralph Dell; nephews, Kevin Dell, David and Dennis Snyder.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Red Lion Elks Club #1592 or a charity of your choice. Per his request, no viewing or service will be held; however, a celebration of life is planned on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 12 till 4 p.m., at the Glen Rock Hose and Ladder Company. Arrangements are being handled by John W. Keffer Funeral Home Inc. of York, Pa.
