Thelma I. Myers

HARRISBURG Thelma Irene Myers, 94, passed away peacefully at home October 26, 2013. She was born November 13, 1918 in Harrisonville, Fulton County, the daughter of the late John Fremont DeShong and Agnes Milfred (Oakman) DeShong. She was married to Rev. Dr. Paul E. Myers, December 24, 1939 at Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, Pa. They had been married 66 years at the time of his death June 1, 2006. Thelma was also predeceased by her son, Arnold Paul Myers September 17, 2013; and by her four brothers and six sisters who have all gone to heaven before her. Thelma is lovingly remembered by her surviving children, Caroline Agnes (Myers) Reyes, and spouse Abraham of Bridgeport, Conn.; Ray Noel Myers and his partner Scott Gahagen; and Janice Lorraine Myers all of Harrisburg; daughter-in-law Melissa (Carter) Myers of Berwick; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and by her extended family and friends. Thelma grew up and worked on the family farm. She enjoyed the outdoors, vegetable gardening and planning and planting her flower beds. The birds were always fed and her binoculars were always handy. She had a beautiful voice and could often be heard singing while working around the house. Throughout her life with Paul, Thelma served church parishes as Paul's assistant and as an active volunteer with the United Methodist Women and other charities in Fulton, Bedford, Huntingdon, Blair, Franklin, York and Dauphin counties. Thelma's devotion to God and her faith in the presence of God's Love in all human beings, was evident in her demeanor and in her actions. Thelma was a devoted, loving and generous wife and mother. She is and always will be the heart and soul of her family. Hoover Funeral Home in Hershey is handling the arrangements for cremation and interment, which will be private in the Hershey Cemetery. All are welcome to join family and friends at a memorial service November 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Charlton United Methodist Church, 5920 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA., 17111, Ph# 717-545-2000. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania or to Charlton United Methodist Church where Thelma was a member.
