Thomas Larson Obituary

EAST BERLIN Thomas Eugene Larson, 68, formerly of South River, N.J., passed away at home with his family by his side on Thursday, March 22, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Evelyn M. (Bowman) Larson. Together they shared over 42 years of marriage. Tom was born in Wilmington, Del., on March 8, 1944, and was the son of the late Kenneth G. and Mary (Heenan) Larson. He graduated from South River High School in South River, N.J., class of 1963. He worked his entire life in the automotive field in the New Jersey area. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed camping at Cedar Lake Campground in Dover. They also enjoyed attending events at the York Fairgrounds and decided to live in East Berlin. He was an avid train collector, car collector, and dog lover. He enjoyed drag racing and motorcycles and held a national record for drag racing. He was a member of the Train Collectors Assoc., the NHRA, NSRA, and a longtime member of the Spirits of 53 Corvette Club. In addition to his wife, Evelyn, he is survived by his loving daughter, Meredith M. Larson and her fiance', Michael McCabe of South River, N.J.; his granddaughter, Breonna C. McCabe; and his step-granddaughter, Molly McCabe. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Snell of Hillsborough, N.J.; three nephews; a niece; and his great-nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by a funeral service in celebration of his life at 3 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove 17362 with the Rev. Kenneth G. Smith officiating. Cremation will be held privately. A memorial service will be held in South River, N.J., at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to National Nostalgia Drag Racing Assoc., P.O. Box 3675, York ,PA 17402; or Eastern Museum of Motor Racing, P.O. Tom was my dads best friend his entire life. Tom had a heart of gold and will be missed so much by many. I will always remember him at Raceway park & at York. Our prayers are with you. I will always remember him and my dad on the phone for hours talking about cars. God speed good friend!
