Wilma Jean Richters (Schulz)
March 8, 1933 - August 13, 2025
Wilma Jean Richters (Schulz), age 92 of York, Nebraska died on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Stromsburg, NE. Wilma was born to Henry and Lora (Lindner) Schulz on a Thursday, the 9th of February 1933, at the family home near Pleasant Dale. And she entered the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025, in Stromsburg NE, surrounded by her daughters and sons in law. She became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, March 8th, 1933, and was confirmed in 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church, Garland NE.
Wilma Jean attended Rural District #32 one and a half miles south of the farm she grew up on, near Garland Nebraska. She continued her education in Garland parochial school and then at Garland High School, graduating with the class of 1950. She celebrated her 75th Class Reunion in June 2025.
Following graduation, Wilma Jean began working at the Elgin Watch Co. factory in Lincoln NE for one year. She then worked at the Seward Memorial Hospital for one year. She was a close friend and co-worker with her cousin Marion Schulz, who was dating a gentleman by the name of Delmar Maier. A blind, double date was set by Marion & Delmar for Wilma Jean and Norman Richters. Alas, Wilma Jean and Norman were married on September 28th, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garland, NE
The newlyweds made their life on a farm East of McCool Junction. Here they raised their two daughters, Sharon Kay and Sandra Lea.
Wilma Jean became everything a farm wife is by cooking, canning, baking, and gardening. She could run the farm equipment like a pro and was the extra set of hands on the farm. Wilma Jean was an impeccable housekeeper, as her home was always as neat as a pin. The farm provided for the family needs, raising crops, cattle, chickens and all the many kitties the girls thought they needed. While on the farm, they were members of St. John's Lutheran church Cordova Nebraska, where Wilma Jean served on many committees throughout the years including Ladies aid, Dorcus Society and was a Sunday school and VBS teacher. After retiring to York, Wilma Jean became a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where Wilma was still a member at the time of her passing.
Wilma was active in many card groups, socializing at the York Senior center and most recently playing dominoes at Willowbrook Assisted Living. She also enjoyed the Bible study group on Tuesday afternoons with the ladies from Willowbrook. While at Willowbrook, mom was friends with so many and was loved by the staff who treated her like their own family. Something we will forever be grateful for.
Wilma Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Norman in 1996; her parents, Henry and Lora Schulz; brother, Merle Schulz; sister, Darleen Duerr; her husband, Kenneth; and great-grandson, Kennedy Browitt.
