Rindy Sumners Obituary

SUMNERS, Rindy Eileen
Sept. 30, 1987 to Aug. 26, 2009
Rindy Sumners, 21, died on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from injuries received during an automobile accident.

Rindy, a Sacramento native, will be remembered for her amazing music, sparkling humor, and loving heart by her parents, Rick and Sandy Sumners of Sacramento. Her history of swimming competitively, striking capacity for loyalty and forgiveness, and enthralling singing voice will mark the memories of her grandparents, Bob and Lenore Sumners, Jan and Hank Hernandez, and Ronald and Nancy Sheppard.

Rindy's intimate compassion and illuminating smile will live in the hearts of her aunts and uncles, Susan (Jack) Means, and Ron (Teresa) Sheppard, and her cousins, Matthew (Bethany) Sheppard, and Kiefer, P.J., and Steven Sheppard, as well as her precious nephew, Conner. Rindy was preceded in death by her loving uncle, Randy Sumners.

Her friends, who also knew her as Rindella, Rindy Roo, Rindefer, and Tuffy, will always share in the experiences of their time with Rindy in San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Anaheim, Washington, D.C., amongst other adventures.

Accolades were frequent with regard to Rindy's music, both in the community and at her place of worship, Mars Hill Church. She performed professionally with bands and as a solo act after her graduation from Natomas Charter School, Performing and Fine Arts Academy.

Her '60's mod fashion sense, proclivity for dramatic response, and a desire to care for everyone was a hallmark of her character. From early childhood, it was clear to her best friend/mother, and motivator/father that she was born to entertain. Even with her creative birthday cakes, she brought smiles to everyone who knew her.

Rindy's life of truth, art, and joy will be celebrated on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 2pm at the Mars Hill Church, American Lakes Elementary School, 2800 Stonecreek Drive, Sacramento, CA 95833.

Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Rindy Sumners Musical Fund, to complete the CD on which she was so ardently working.

Rick & Sandy,

I just heard of your loss of your daughter and can not believe it. Robert got in touch with Matthew and he told Robert of the loss of Rindy. It saddens me to know you have suffered such pain. I was lucky enough to meet Rindy several times and always thought how she was such a beautiful mixture of you both and her name also proved that. She grew up to be a beautiful young lady and as I have read several of your guest book entries a very talented young lady. I am so sorry for your and your families loss. I wish I would of been able to get in touch with you under different circumstances it is sad that we all did not keep in touch. We all shared some fun times in our younger years and times that make me so happy when I think of them. Rick always was eager to entertain the kids with a wonderful story that kept their attention intensely. It has been many, many years since I have seen you all and my heart, prayers and thoughts go out to all of you. I do want you to know that I am one of the lucky ones that have been fortunate enough to have an early recording of your preciolus star, she sang The Lion Sleeps Tonight at my wedding and it is recorded. She has always had that twinkle in her eye for singing and music......hmmmmm I wonder where she got that from. Rindy is a singing angel watching over you two and there will be a time when you will see your little star again. God Bless Rindy and all of you and may she rest in Peace.

As one month has passed, I haven't even been able to acknowledge out loud, the landmark for the deep grief I am feeling now. It's too intense. If I say it aloud, I may explode. Not hearing your voice is so hard. Hearing your voice on your recordings is equally difficult. I miss you, Rindella. Love, James

Rick and Sandy, my thoughts are with you moment by moment on how devastating this has been. As I write this, my head sways side to side in disbelief. Know that friends who love you guys and Rindy, if they could take away the pain they would. I look forward to the smiles and grins I know I will get if we can find the project Rindy might have worked on for me. In any case, she had become the woman and creative light you raised her to be. She loved you both so much.

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends for the loss of such a beautiul and vibrant young lady. May the words at Philip. 4:7 & * offer some comfort - "Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus." You are in the thoughts and prayrs of many.

As a former Rocky Bend Dr. neighbor, I quickly found that Rindy was quite the fab friend because Rick & Sandy always had a vanload of kids with them.
It was always heartwarming to hear all the laughter that emitted from your home.
Then to find you at Mars Hill Church, 8 years later, was like totally amazing to me.
Rindy was a ray of sunshine, literally always beaming a huge beautiful smile, especially as she sang on worship team and glanced to see her family sitting just a few seats away.
I admired her dedication to our church, singing on the worship team and then literally running off stage so she could keep volunteering in the Nursery.
She was awesome with our little children, we can't even begin to know the seeds she planted in their hearts from the time she spent with them.
Her heart was purely beautiful. May you find comfort in the One who is our Comforter and peace from the One who is our Prince of Peace. My Love & Prayers,

Angie (Bahr) Lopez

I was Rindy's swim coach (AquaBears) when she was 15 I believe. I remember as such a lively young lady who loved to swim. I was proud to read how successful she has become. I am sad for the loss of her life. I wish you all well as you heal from this tragic loss. You are in my prayers!

Dear Sandy and Rick,
My heart aches for your loss. Rindy was a beautiful girl and I had the pleasure of watching what a good friend she was to others. May you find love and comfort in those who share your loss during this difficult time. Rest in Peace Rindy.

Sandy & Rick,
I was in Indiana taking care of my parents when I heard this unbelievable news. I bawled like a baby. I used to tell your daughter when she sung on stage at Mars Hill Church that she would be the only one I'd watch because she had a "groove move step" while singing-she didn't just stand there. We would laugh about that. My daughter Melanie just saw her just last week at school and they talked. There are not enough words to express the sorrow I feel for your family. The service was beautiful-hearing her songs and those of Ricks.

Dear Sandy and Rick,

You are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time with the loss of your dear Rindy. I was deeply saddened at this news. I was her teacher at Bannon Creek Elementary. Rick and Sandy, I am so very sorry for your loss of your wonderful daughter. Rindy and my son, Edward "Buddy" Nelson, enjoyed each other's company during and after their time at Charter. Edward is so very lucky to have the memories he does of the times he and Rindy performed their wonderful music at little coffee shops and on the school CD. Please accept my deepest heartfelt condolences. May the peace and love of the holy spirit carry you through this very difficult time. Peace be with you.

Sandy & Rick,

My thoughts go out to you at this time of loss and sorrow. I will always cherish my memories as Rindy's music teacher at the Natomas Charter School. She touched so many people with her shining heart and her beautiful voice. While I am now miles away, my heart is as close as ever. If I can help in any way with the finishing of Rindy's CD, let me know, I would be honored to say the least. Hugs to you and all who miss her.

August 29, 2009

Dear Rick and Sandy,

It is a miracle that Rindy was who she was. We all try to make good choices, but Rindy was good at her core. She didn't have to choose to be kind to people or find happiness; it's simply who she was. No one can hope for anything better than that, and the two of you could not possibly have brought a more beautiful human being into the world. Some of my happiest memories are of the times I spent with my Russian twin, Rindella. I am absolutely blessed to have known her, and I will keep your family in my heart, always.

Love,

Rick and Sandy,

I only had the pleasure of knowing Rindy for a little more than a year. She was a great person, even through our ups and downs, in the end Rindy was there. She held no grudge against anyone, no matter where they stood on a subject. Rindy was a great friend and a great person. I will never forget her or what she taught me. Our times in class together will forever be something I want to dwell upon. She knew how to get everyone to laugh. I'm sorry she left you so soon, but she knew she had a plan in life, and for her I believe this was part of her plan. She will forever live in our hearts and mind. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

My heart and prayers go out to the close friends and family of this talented young lady. I loved her voice and felt we at Mars Hill were very blessed that she chose to share her joy of music with us. I only spoke with her once and it was to tell her how much I enjoyed her voice. I am retired now and used to sing in a church choir, so I recognize a superb and special voice. I wish I had gotten to know her.

Sandy & Rick, I am so saddened by the loss of our singing angel, Rindy. I got to know her during my son's piano lessons at the church office last year. I was fairly new to Mars Hill back then & didn't know many of the choir members waiting to rehearse, but she always greeted me with a warm hug & that illuminating smile of hers & made me feel very welcomed & I will miss her. I hope you find comfort in knowing how many lives she touched with her beautiful heart. May God grant you peace & comfort during this difficult time.

Tears fill my eyes as sadness fills my heart. The realization of who i am today can only linger with such a positive essence of Rindy and her wild spark for life and all things beautiful. Both of us being only children was one of our many connections in our friendship because we knew what it was like to love unconditionaly and be loved unconditionaly by our parents. I can hear her singing already, gracing the skys of day and the stars of night with the music that makes her heart flutter. A joy and appriciation of music and art will always live on in the memory of Rindy.

I miss you terribly, Rindy. Please watch over us. Always and Forever.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Sandy and Rick, I will always remember Rindy's sparkling and encouraging presence as she guided "If Only" along. Their songs are still on my iPod and also that picture of them in their yellow ties. I can't imagine your incredible loss. I hope you know that in her short life she touched many lives, including mine. And, that she will always be remembered. I think of the poem, "A Parable of Immortality" by Henry Van Dyke which describes death as a ship that leaves our sight on the horizon, but is just as strong and full as it appears on the next horizon to the cheers of "Here she comes!".
