I met Joe in 1972 when I went to work at Lion Country Safari in Grand Prairie as their in house controller. We became friends almost instantly, and that friendship lasted for 50 years. My wife and kids were also part of that friendship. As they grew to have their own families and moved around, they still always wanted to know what Dr. Cannon would advise them to do with any of their pets, Joe was a person who made friends easily and treated all people as such. He never talked down to people when trying to explain veterinary medicine to them and was very skilled at his trade. He had the respect of many many colleagues who viewed him as one of the best in their field. His adventures as an exotic animal vet were far beyond what most vets ever get exposed to, and he shared those experiences generously with anyone who wanted to tag along. Some that I was privileged to share with him were absolutely comical, and some were life and death, but his passion and determination for saving animals never faltered. Joe was a man of strong faith above all else. He shared that faith with his devoted wife Sharon and clung to it fiercely until the time the Lord called him home. I grieve with his entire family and wish peace and comfort to all of them during this time of loss. Will see you again in Heaven my friend.

What an absolutely awesome man. Always sweet, kind, compassionate, empathic and graciously humble. Loved animals of all kinds. I first met him when he came to help us out at Dr Stephen Russell's Clinic in Morgan Mill, TX. I helped him many weekends at the Hamilton Animal Shelter where we vaccinated and he did the spay and neuters on as many dogs and cats as we could doing an 8 hr period. I was responsible for monitoring anesthesia during the surgeries. He was a great teacher and everyone once in awhile a dry sense of humor would emerge. After he built Greens Creek Animal Hospital, he treated my sweet Panda dog who was a four week old, runt of the litter Boston Terrier the first time he saw her. She was half the size she should have been and had very weak back legs. He told me to feed her puppy formula and add infant vitamin drops to her feedings. He looked at me and said,"You know it's all up to God and her will to live." He saw her four weeks later and she had doubled in weight and was walking like any other puppy. She lived 13 years! Jesus just got one of the best veterinarians I have ever had the privilege of working with. God bless you Dr. Cannon and prayers for your grieving family.

I am glad the the Lord gave him the gift of helping and saving animals and he was passionate about it. He helped and saved many of mine. I have so many memories and stories about farm calls to my ranch. I will cherish them. I pray for his family at this difficult time.

I am very proud to be a cousin(three ways) to Joe. Always fun to be with. A great and humble person. He left his foot prints in a lot of places from California to Kentucky and hand prints on a lot of animals. I am going to miss that special guy. Family I am sad that I will miss his memorial service Sunday. Love to you all. Prayers and love from Judy and Jimmie.
