Charles E. Cheatham, Jr., 49, of Yuma, AZ passed away on March 22, 2021 at YRMC with family by his side. He was born in Stockton, CA on September 12, 1971, and moved to Yuma as a teenager where he lived for the rest of his days. Charles was a well-loved member of the community and will be remembered by many for his kindness, smile, and love to tell stories. Many more people may recall seeing him riding his bike to the music stores in town throughout the years.
He was a proud graduate of Kofa High School and a diligent custodian at the Border Patrol station through the ACHIEVE program. Charles was proud of his job and always did his work every day with a smile and a story to brighten everyone's day.
Charles was an active participant in the Special Olympics program for all of his time in Yuma and made many life-long friends at Special Olympics. He participated in almost every Special Olympics activity but he was most active in Bowling, Swimming, and Cheer.
Charles is preceded in death by his father, John A. Delpino, Sr.
Charles is survived by his mother, Delores C. B. Delpino; his sister, Dejon C. Delpino, Esq.; and a host of loving brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his family in the Special Olympics and ACHIEVE program who have helped the immediate family greatly since his passing. He was a loving and kind man who will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Let's just put it like this, there's a Charles shaped hole in the heart of Yuma.
Services will be held on April 16th, 2021 at 9:00 am in the Chapel at Johnson Mortuary & Desert Lawn Memorial Park at 1415 S 1st Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364, with the burial at 11:00 am. The repast will follow at 12:00 pm at the Cultural Center at Old St. Paul's Church located at 645 S 2nd Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364.

I used to manage the Thrift Store ant 2nd Chance. Charles was known to all of my staff. He brightened our day and was a kind, thoughtful, sweet and enthusiastic young man. I will miss you Charles, it was my pleasure to have known you.

I knew Charles in High School. He was always such a nice person and kind to every person who knew him. He was always good for "Hello's" and he was a friend to everyone who he met. My heart goes out to his family.

Charles will be dearly missed! He was always so kind, generous and thoughtful. My daughter and Charles participated in a lot of the same Special Olympics events. May God bless you and keep you during this trying time.

Such sad news when I heard Charles had passed , Charles look up David in Heaven he will show you around , just like you did for him in special Olympics ! You will be greatly missed may you RIP Fly high with the Angels ❤

Charles was very knowledgeable in jazz and his Black culture. He supported the NAACP and loved eating BBQ. I saw him at the library all the time. I always listened to him while he shared his history lessons in music. He was a very kind and gentle young man.
