Harry Miller Obituary

Harry J. Miller Jr.

May 30, 1935 - January 8, 2020

Harry J Miller Jr. died in Chandler Arizona January 8, 2020 at the age of 84. Harry was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 30, 1935.

After graduating from Roman Catholic High School, he served in the Marine Corp. After his service, he returned to Philadelphia where he met and married Cecilia, his wife of 60 years. Harry worked as a boiler maker before being hired by the Dept of the Navy for the Naval Aviation Engineering Service Unit which would take them first to North Carolina and then to MCAS in Yuma, Arizona where they lived for 41 years. With NAESU, he provided technical support to the F4 Phantom and Harrier programs and was recognized for his ability to work with and train pilots on complex radar systems. Besides this, he completed a business degree through Arizona Western College. He built and owned the Fairmount Apartments and later briefly owned the Yuma Mesa R.V. Park. He was a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and sponsor of several Yuma youth sports teams and received recognition for his frequent blood donations.

He enjoyed working with electronics, reading, playing cards and traveling with Ceil and his family around the country but especially to the beach. After retirement from NAESU and business ownership, he enjoyed playing in the Yuma Parks and Recreation Senior Softball League making friends and traveling with the team occasionally to Canada. In later years, he was an eager unofficial volunteer helping Ceil and the Assistance League of Yuma.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry Sr and Marie Miller and his sister Anne Allen.

He is survived by his wife Cecilia, his sisters Patricia Haller and Barbara Simpson and his children Phillip (Christine), Daniel (Robin), Harry (Todd Rambo), Julianna (Todd) Turner and Gary (Tiffany). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews all of whom brought him great joy.

The family is grateful for the kind care he received through Catholic Community Services Daybreak Adult Care Center of Yuma and Chandler Memory Care in Chandler Arizona. No services were held. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.
