Matthew Hiebert (Varner) Obituary

Matthew "Buddy" Hiebert (Varner), 20 year-old native of Yuma, Arizona, died on Sunday night February 18th, 2018 from a pedestrian car accident. Matthew was walking to visit his mother. By God's grace he died instantly.

Matthew, known lovingly by his family as Buddy, was born in Scotsdale, Arizona on January 20th, 1998 to Basil (Matt) Varner and Natalie Hiebert. This beautiful boy, the only boy, and youngest child and immediately became the heart and soul with his crooked grin, and goofy laugh he was the light of our lives.

He attended multiple Yuma schools, including Ronald Reagan Elementary School and Carpe Diem E-Learning Community. He is remembered by his classmates as the class clown, always working to get a laugh out of his peers and teachers.

For most of his life, he worked tirelessly alongside his father with the family business, BEV Honey. He was a hard worker and always wanted to help the family including caring for his grandfather.

Buddy, above all else, loved to make the people he loved happy.

Just this last summer, he used what little of his own money he had to purchase flowers and chocolates for his Mother's birthday. All he ever wanted was to make sure that everyone else was comfortable. He was always asking "are you good?"

Matthew loved, listening to rap music as well as writing rap, boxing, running, playing XBOX with friends, watching movies with his Dad, eating spicy foods (or any food at all), and taking a good nap.

In the last few years of his life, Buddy struggled with depression and other mental health issues. He was a resilient and strong young man who wanted to get better.

Buddy is survived by his father Matt and his mother Natalie, still both living in Yuma, Arizona, and his sisters Danielle, Aly, and Erin, who now live in Phoenix and Flagstaff. He is also survived by his grandfather Daniel Hiebert and his aunt Twila Hiebert of Longview, Washington. Close friends Kira Fenzel, her son Adam, and her family will also help carry on his memory. He is also survived by Joe Ramirez and sons as well as numerous aunts, cousins, and friends will remember Matthew as well.

Funeral arrangements have been made private.
The family invites those who are interested in attending a celebration of life on March 2, 2018 to text or call (520) 238-9288 for information.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations are sent to Yuma's chapter of the National Alliance of Mental Health.

Buddy, I carry you in my heart everyday. Missing you when you were alive is only a fraction of how much I miss you now that you're gone. I would do anything to hug you again, to share a meal with you again, to watch you love Aly and Mom and Danielle again. I wish I could show you all the new things I've learned; the places I've gone, my warm apartment, the new shows I've watched.

I would die to make you breakfast in my apartment or do your laundry; to take care of you the way I got to the few years that Aly and Danielle were gone. You were always supposed to be right behind me, doing what I was doing but in your own way. Nonetheless - you gave us joy, Buddy. You did. I am sorry you hurt and I am sorry I couldn't fix it. And I miss you, I miss you, I miss you.

Dear Budster, I know I have already posted on here but a few minutes ago I had a special memory of you and wanted to share. When you were young and searched for bugs etc with me you always told me Auntie, You aren't a real gurl. LOL I always asked why you thought that and you would reply and say well you have short hair and wear jeans all the time. And I would ask why that made me unlike a real gurl. You would say well you always are building or fixing things......your mother was mortified that you would say such a thing and I always got a chuckle out of it as I am right now. I love you , Budster

Dear Budster. What a hole you have left in the hearts of all that loved you. It will be hard to go forward. As my only nephew I have loved being your Auntie. Watching you grow up was a joy. I remember when you and Erin were little you were always side by side doing everything together. We called you the twins. :) I also remember all the times we caught bugs and lizards together. I will never forget when you caught a lizard and it's tail fell off in your hand your whole body shuddered as you dropped it. I had to explain why that happened. I don't think you ever hunted lizards again....ha. Was so glad I got to see you last year. Rest assured you will never be out of our hearts and minds. Love Auntie
