Thurman Cole Obituary

Memorial services for Thurman Earl Cole of Duncan, Oklahoma were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday February 27, 2007 at Grantham Funeral Home in Duncan. Thurman died at his home in Duncan on Saturday, February 24, 2007. He was born in Stephens County, Oklahoma, on September 3, 1920 to Earl and Josie Cole. He graduated from Comanche High School in 1939. He married Helen Brooks on July 28, 1940. They divorced in 1985. To this union, five children were born.

Thurman farmed in the Hereford, Texas area for a number of years. He started a farm implement business around 1960 moving to Yuma around 1962. He remained in Yuma until the early 1980s. Thurman was a very intelligent man, retaining his memory until the end of his life. He was legally blind, but he memorized all telephone numbers he needed and recited the 23rd Psalms. He was saved at the age of 15 at the Corum Baptist Church in Corum, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Floyd, and Lloyd; sister, Helen Shearhart; daughter, Connie; one grandson, Chad Hudson; and one great-granddaughter, Chelsey Jordan. Helen Cole died on Dec. 6, 2005 in Lubbock, Texas.

Survivors include three daughters and one son. They are: Kay Reese, Ray (Carol) Cole, Donna (Jim) Pendergrass, all of the Lubbock area; Susan (Ozzie) Hugher of Granbury, Texas; grandchildren, Kimberly Kammann, Raef Reese, Dalona Pierson, June Hill, Shane, Cody, and Tami Cole, Dawn Smith, Suzette Kelly, Bud Hughes, and Amber Clark; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as brother, Ralph Cole of Katy, Texas.
