To me, he is "just a brother". To many of you he was your lawnmower guy, bowling instructor, friend, neighbor and more. I had no idea he was so well-known and had touched so many lives. And I want to thank all of you for your kind words and expressions of sympathy. Thank you very much.

Those lanwmowers were a permanent fixture in our neighborhood. Whenever we would be gone for an extended length of time it was always a good feeling to be coming home and seeing those lawnmowers. Made us feel safe that we were finally home. My older son, Lee Parker, was a friend of Cory's and I know the Smart family will miss their dad very much. Red will be missed by many in our area.

I remember spending many nights at Village Lanes either bowling on a league myself, or watching my parents on a league. Red was always there to keep the kids busy and would always give us a hard time. Village Lanes was definitely like a family. I'm so glad I got to be a part of that family! What a wonderful man Red was, just hearing his laugh, made you laugh no matter what. My deepest sympathy to his family. He will never be forgotten!

Surely will miss Red. He was quick to help anyone that he could. I remember times when I was mowing my lawn and the mower would stop. Red would stop what he was doing to help me fix it. Not many folks around like that anymore. My family and I send our deepest sympathy.

I am so sorry for your loss. Red was a great man and neighbor. I will miss him dearly. He was always a treat to talk with. Always in a good mood. He was ready to help me when I had a problem, his knowledge was endless. Of course, I enjoyed when he just came over to sit in my garage and talk about anything. Now, who will chaperon Dave.

Our sympathy goes out to the entire Smart family. Red was like part of our family & it won't be the same going to the bowling alley without him being there. I don't remember the bowling alley that my mom & dad built without Red being there. In my memory, he was always there.

Red, I remember when we came to thornville and I started bowling at a very young age, you used to get so frustrated trying to teach me how to control my natural curve, but after years you did and we brought you home a championship in the tournaments. It used to be such a thrill to see our names on the board and to also show up early to watch you practice. Memories I will never forget, love you red!

Clyde,
I am so glad you could not remember my birth date. Otherwise, you would not have called me last week and we would not have had that long, one-hour phone conversation. I will cherish it forever. I miss you.

My prayers go out to the entire Smart family. He was a very kind person. I will always think of him when I go to the bowling alley, and when I hear the word "rutabaga", since that is what he always called me for some reason.

Grandpa, while my heart is hurting so bad right now, I take comfort in thinking about all the great times we spent together. I will never forget everything you have ever done for me. From teaching me how to bowl to having me work beside you all those years in the shop. I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. We will remember you always and forever. Tell Grandma we love her and give her a hug for us.
