Merle Krause Obituary

Merle Dean Krause Sr.

Zanesville - Merle Dean Krause Sr., 89, of Zanesville, passed away December 21, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 16, 1928 in Zanesville, son of the late Chauncey Krause and Edna Ayers Krause. He was employed by Central Ohio Coal, where he worked on the Big Muskie as a bulldozer operator and mechanic. He retired as a train operator for Muskingum Electric Railway and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

Merle was a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and was loved by all. Merle had a great sense of humor. It wasn't unusual for him to pull a joke or prank on a loved one. He enjoyed helping people in need. Whatever he taught his sons he taught his daughters. He always wanted his girls to be self-sufficient. Merle enjoyed hunting, fishing, welding, working on mowers, cars, equipment and the story was told "If Merle couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed." He would even make the parts he needed.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Spicer Krause, whom he married August 30, 1946 and celebrated their 71st anniversary at the Wilds with family; children, Laura Mummey, Richard (Linda) Krause, Robert Krause, Debra Cordray, Merle Dean (Suzanne) Krause Jr., Mary Jane (Ted) Glosser, Gayle Krause, Lisa (Francis) Getter; sister, Nancy (Phil) Schlaegel; brother-in-law, Frank Gilbert; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay Elley; two son-in-law's, Carl Elley and Al Cordray; brothers, Rodney and Kenneth Krause; sisters, Francis Calland, Jackie Miller and Mary Gilbert.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will take place Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Aaron Wahl officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery.

Dad you have taught me so much that I will always remember the good time and the bad times. I made a promise to take care of mom and i will keep it. I wanted to tell you i went to Advent Service and i prayed to Jesus that he cant heal you that he wont let you suffer anymore. I think i got my prayers answer because you went to heaven the next day. I will miss you so much. Your daughter Mary Jane.
