Marvine Hayes Obituary

Marvine Joan Hayes Battle Creek Marvine Joan (Hackley) Hayes, 86, of Battle Creek, MI, died in the presence of her family on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, MI. Marvine was born in Kalamazoo, MI, December 8, 1922 to Clara D. (Smith) Hackley and Bert I. Hackley. She attended Kalamazoo Public Schools, graduated from Kalamazoo Central January 1941, and later attended some classes at Kellogg Community College. She met and later married Blan L. Hayes on June 27, 1941. From this union they had two daughters, Paula Jean and Brenda Joyce, both of whom were the loves of her life. Her husband, Blan, is a loving and caring man who has always been there for her, especially caring for her during her many illnesses that she experienced since 1988. Marvine did a lot of volunteer work with children until being hired by Kellogg Co. in 1957, working in the packing room until an injury caused permanent disability. Later she continued her volunteer work with the HOSTS Program at Ann J Kellogg Elementary School for seven years. Marvine was preceded in death by both parents, brothers Donald Bert, Kenneth Jerome, and sisters Virginia Bell Ware and Verna Dell Mayberry. Marvine was the last child of Bert and Della to pass. The home in Kalamazoo, purchased in the early 1900's, remains in the family. Marvine is survived by husband, Blan; daughters, Paula (Eric) Dickerson and Brenda Jackson; grandchildren, Blan (Natasha) Dickerson, Aisha Causey, Erica Dickerson, Terin Dickerson, Preston Jackson, Stephen Jackson; great-grandchildren, Blan Dickerson II, Nakia Dickerson and Natalia Dickerson. Marvine was a very loving mother and grandmother. Her family was her life. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Pastor Creighton Mabry of Abundant Grace Church officiating. Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Care. I remember running (when you weren't looking, and I still could) through your house and playing outside with Paula and Brenda as a kid. Woodrow and I were always welcome and you were always loving. I will always love you in the same context that I keep my parents. God Bless your family.

As nearby neighbors, we so enjoyed our visits with Marvene and Blan--especially listening to their stories of trips, adventures, and children. Until the end, Marvene was a joy to be around, always smiling and loving and full of spirit. We would always leave her house feeling good.
