Addie Mae Howard

Addie Mae Howard Kalamazoo Addie Mae Howard, formerly of Albion, born July 30, 1919, in Versailles, Kentucky, to the late Mr. Samuel and Lela (Underwood) Chase, went peacefully to be with the Lord, on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Rose Arbor Residence in Kalamazoo, MI. She attended Versailles and Lexington Public Schools. Addie was a faithful member of Lewis Chapel AME Church in Albion, MI, where she served on the Usher Board. She was employed by Corning Glass Works for 23 years. She was married to Nathaniel Howard, (who preceded her in death), on May 6, 1945. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved traveling, entertaining, gardening and playing cards, (Bid Wiz). Her memory will always be cherished in the hearts of her family: daughter, Deborah (Doris) Chatman, of Kalamazoo; son, Pat (Linda) Howard of Kalamazoo; sister, Dorothy Boatwright of Dayton, OH; sister-in-law, Arlene Whitney of Albion, MI; four granddaughters, Denise Moss of Jackson, MI, Regenia Chatman and Nicole (Jessie) Barrow, of Kalamazoo, and Shayla Howard, of Atlanta, GA; one grandson, Greg (Angie) Howard of Kalamazoo; eight great-grandchildren, Danielle, Alexis, Caleb, Joshua Moss, Larrisha Lewis, Ciara, Jade Howard and Zaria Barrow. She will be missed by her long-time friends, Gertrude Barting, Evelyn Union and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Howard, two brothers, Wilbur and Joe Chase, two sisters, Sarah Coleman and Mattie Winkfield. May the years that Addie was blessed to live, become a legacy in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her. A Homegoing Celebration will take place on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 12 noon with an 11 a.m. Family hour from the Lewis AME Church, in Albion, with Rev. Donald Phillips, Officiating. Burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, in Albion. Mrs. Howard will lie in state in the Chapel of Whitley Memorial Funeral Home, from 1-5 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
