Mary Lorene Wightman Battle Creek Mary Lorene Wightman, 97, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Hastings Thornapple Manor on Friday, January 8, 2010. She was born September 4, 1912 in Sciota, IL the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Moss and Nora (Wade) Moss. Mary along with her husband owned and operated the Super Klean Kleaners for some 13 years until Russell passed away in 1963. She previously worked as the Cosey Cafe, Sip and Nip, A & W Root Beer stand on Capital Avenue and had worked for Kellogg's for one year. She married Russell G. Wightman on February 4, 1941 in Battle Creek, MI.; however he passed away in 1963. She is survived by one son: Thomas "Jim" & Dianne Wightman of Dowling, MI; her daughter: M. Collene & Jack Roberts of Battle Creek, MI; one step son: Robert & Carolyn Wightman of Delton, MI; six grandchildren: Steve Roberts; Randy Roberts; Debbie Weigle; Bobby Morgan; Michael Wightman; seven step grandchildren: Julie Kaufman, Duane Morgan, Rick Bradfield, Ronnie Wightman, Laurie Creager, Jodie Foley, and Danny Wightman; sixteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren She was preceded in death by two husbands: Arthur Moon in 1938, Russell Wightman in 1963, her parents, her daughter Shirlene Morgan (10-7-1959), her step son Richard Wightman (1987), her sister Marie Horrell, her five brothers: Clifford Moss, Clyde Moss, Lloyd Moss, Ralph Donald Moss, and Wade Moss. Mary received her education in Illinois and came to Battle Creek from Illinois in 1940. She has enjoyed quilting, playing cards, going camping and gardening around the house. Visitation will be held at after 4:00 p.m. Monday at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service where the family will be present from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services commemorating the Life of Mary Lorene Wightman will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. at the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Pastor James Codde, Chaplin for Lifespan Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at the Hicks Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to Alzheimer's Diseases Association or Fulton Baptist Church or to Lifespan Hospice.
