Elizabeth Shaffer Obituary

Elizabeth B. Shaffer Formerly of Olivet Elizabeth B. Shaffer died peacefully at the Country Acres Adult Care Home in Eaton Rapids on January 31, 2010 at the age of 96. She was born on October 17, 1913 to John and Margaret (Jewell) Hamilton in Battle Creek. Michigan. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1932 and attended County Normal to become a teacher. Elizabeth married Christian Vahs and was early widowed. She and her second husband, John H. Shaffer, spent nearly 50 years together in Olivet. Elizabeth taught school, was a secretary for the Bellevue school district, and later worked in the Business Office at Olivet College. She was an active member of the Olivet Congregational Church and the Cora Sexton Circle. Elizabeth is survived by her three daughters, Ann (Peter) Wade, Jean (William) Blair, and Julia Shaffer; four grandchildren, Peter (Tami) Wade, Susan Wade, Amy Blair (Kirk Pruett), and Jeremy Blair and three great grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah and Stephanie Wade. A memorial service will be held at the Olivet Congregational Church on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Olivet Congregational Church, 125 College St., Olivet, MI 49076; Country Acres Adult Care Home, 735 S.
