Bruce Isldore Phillips, a former Monroe resident, died July 6, 2009, in Crozet, from complications due to an asthma attack.

Born October 9, 1964, in Bridgeport, he was raised in Monroe.

Mr. Phillips attended Bullard Havens Technical High School, class of 1982, where he studied carpentry, his lifelong occupation.

"Bruce greatly enjoyed his time with family and friends, was an avid outdoorsman and had a great interest in music, especially The Grateful Dead," his family said.

He enjoyed reading and spending time improving his property in Virginia, where he spent the last 25 years of his life. He also worked at the Charlottesville Pavilion.

"A gentle soul, loyal to a fault, his quick wit and sly smile will be greatly missed," his family said. "Fare thee well".

Survivors include his mother and her husband, Anne E. Phillips-Frendt and Dennis of Newton; brothers, David and his wife, April, of Wollaston, Massachusetts, Richard and his wife, Mille, and son, Hunter, of Monroe, Christopher Phillips of Stratford, Craig Phillips of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and Brad Phillips of Monroe; sisters, Colette Remillard and her husband, Steve, and their children, Nicole and Tyler, of Newton, Darlene Phillips of Ansonia, and Darcy Phillips of Westminster, Colorado; Godparents, Sandy and John Gilbertie of Wilbraham, Massachusetts; as well as many aunts, uncels and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Lee Richard Phillips.

A memorial service will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009, at the Crozet Presbyterian Church on Crozet Road. A picnic/Barbeque will take place at Bruce's house on Beagle Gap Road, Crozet, following the service. All of Bruce's friends are welcome.

Just saw a nice metal plate at the bar of Three Notch'd Grill in Crozet dedicated to Bruce. Says Fare Thee Well.

May the four winds blow you home again...

When I thinking about changing 'careers' Bruce was one of the first friends I mentioned it to (on the way to a Dead show!) and he was very open and supportive of my crazy idea.

Thanks Bruce.

He was a good man, with a keen appreciation of outstanding music, and we all wish he was still around.
