James Francis Yount Jr.

James F. Yount Jr., 62, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, September 3, 2009, in a local hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 12, 1947, in Monterey Bay, California, son of the late James F. and Hedy Ruth Yount Samuels.

Jim graduated from Augusta State University with a B. A. in History. As a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War and Sergeant in both the Marines and Army from which he retired, he had served in several prestigious positions including the United States Pentagon where he served as a White House Guard. He received several Military Awards and Commendations.

His love for history and knack for great stories will be dearly missed by those many friends he touched throughout his life. Jim was a respected man among many communities throughout his life. He was a member of the Eastern Orthodox Christian Faith.

Mr. Yount is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Illyn Yount, three sons, Steven R. Yount of Bethelem, Pennsylvania, Brian P. Yount of New York City, New York, and James F. Yount III of Charlottesville. Also surviving is a brother, Arsenius Yount of Waynesboro; a granddaughter, Lacey Yount of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; and his step-father, Steven Samuels of Crozet.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 7, 2009, in the Chapel at Hill and Wood Funeral Home with Father Nicodemus Gayle officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2009, at the funeral home.
