I remember Dr. Sharp as a wonderful southern gentleman. As a young African-American female going through graduate school I always listened so intently as he spoke with such great command of the English language, and the knowledge he possessed and shared. I will never forget him.

Bert Sharp was the Dean of the College of Education when I was hired in 1974. The early childhood faculty (I taught children's literature, language arts, and reading), were housed in a renovated World War II barracks just west of what is still the Campus Bookstore. When part of the roof fell in 2 years later, Dean Sharp came over to inspect the damage, and decided we would move to the third floor of Peabody Hall, where we remained until the construction of the annex to Norman Hall was completed. I remember Bert Sharp fondly as a man who was a gentle leader who accomplished a great deal in his tenure as dean. My sympathies to his family.
