I just read a news article about the retirement of a TSA bomb sniffing dog named Ebbers. When I came to the part about Ebbers being named after U.S. Army Pvt. James Ebbers, I felt compelled to Google him. That is how I found this page. I've spent the last 20 minutes reading all the entries here and it has made my heart heavy.
James seemed like a very nice young man, with many people who cared deeply for him.
Please know, that even 20 years later, James is still in the thoughts of even those who did not know him. May his memory live on for all of eternity.
"Now he has departed from this strange world a little ahead of me. That means nothing. ...the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." - Einstein
May those who loved James meet him once again.

A beautiful Yellow Lab/Vizla named EEbbers is now a fully certified Explosives Detection Canine working with me in Kansas City at the International Airport. He honors James' memory by working hard everyday keeping the traveling public safe and happy as they watch him eagerly doing his job everyday. Sometimes he just likes to have fun though....

To the family and friends of James Ebbers: We wanted to let you know that a future explosives-sniffing dog has been named in honor of James. His name is Eebbers; the first "E" stands for his litter (each litter adopts the next letter in the alphabet). Eebbers is a male yellow lab, and we are fostering him until next February 2012 when he can begin his training at one-year old. He will work for TSA at an airport, the military or a police force. All the dogs at the TSA National Explosives Detection Canine Team (Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX) are named for a victim in 9-11 or military personnel. We are so honored to foster Eebbers. He is 16 weeks old right now, very cute, and very smart. If you are ever in the Austin area in the next 8 months, you are welcome to meet him. After that you can keep tabs on him with the TSA - http://www.tsa.gov/lawenforcement/programs/editorial_1886.shtm.

I went through basic training with James Ebbers. He was an unforgettable character. I'm so glad I got to spend memorial day weekend 2002 with him, Matt Janson & family, Chad McDuffee, and others. I randomly found Chad wandering around Seoul Korea at one point in Spring of 2003, and he delivered me the news then. I don't know what came over me to search the net on this day, but I did. I never realized James's day of passing was also my birthday. I miss a lot of my military friends. I feel very fortunate to have had such a great weekend, and experience with such a person. I'll never forget our simularities in music preference. Rest in peace my friend. Life moves on, but you will not be forgotten.

Follow The Rainbow To Heaven.

A Soldier had die out on the
battlefield;
Broken hearts are weeping For
Them,
But take comfort of knowing
that God had sent Them a
rainbow from heaven;
The Souls of the Soldiers
have gone to there home
in heaven,
Our Loved One's has follow
God's lovely rainbow in the
sky;
All the way to the end of the
sky.
That leads all the way to the
other end of the Lord's
house in heaven,
So just keep on praying and
trust that God will send us
that same rainbow in the sky;
Where Our Loved One's are
waiting For You and For Me at
the end of the rainbow in

Dear family of Pvt. James H. Ebbers,
We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.
Very Sincerely
Frank G. Noyes

The Scriptures tell us that soon the day will come when God will wipe away every tear from your eyes; and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, and there shall be no more pain - for all of these things shall pass. To the family and friends of Pvt. Ebbers - my heartfelt sympathies extend to each of you. Though I did not know James personally, I know that he is my brother in Christ and, as such, I lift you, his family and friends, up in prayer. Be assured that Pvt. Ebbers's greatest gift given - his life - is a gift treasured and appreciated by many across this land. God bless you all. Rest in peace, brave soldier.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I miss Jim more than I can say. He was a wonderful morale booster----and strong, very strong, tough, kind, generous, kind of a wise guy and yet wise beyond his years. He understood what was really important in life----- love, forgiveness and hope and having a good laugh once in a while! To all of Jim's friends I say this: There's a time to mourn and this is it. But better days are on the way. Perhaps no one knew Jim better than me - I was there when he was born in our apt. in Virginia, the day he started Kindergarten, the day he started Jr. High with Mr.G. I took him for his first drive when he was 15, to his first Judo lesson and taught him his first guitar chords(though he soon surpassed me there).
