James Alexander Obituary

ALEXANDER, JAMES S. "NUTTY BUDDY" - age 74 of Knoxville, native of Norfolk, Virginia, son of the late James S. and Mabel Ayres Alexander, passed away suddenly Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. Jim was President and Chairman of Kay's Ice Cream. He attended the University of Richmond where he lettered in Baseball, Football and Basketball. In 1955, Jim married Margie Blevins. He was on the Board of Webb School of Knoxville, Past President of Chamber of Commerce of Knoxville, Co-Chair of the Dogwood Arts Festival and Past President of the Tennessee & Southern Dairy Associations. He was a member of Knoxville Downtown Kiwanis Club, Commodore of Ft. Loudon Yacht Club and served as Board Member of First Tennessee Bank. Jim, who was a loving husband, father and grandfather, enjoyed family and life and will be deeply missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margie Blevins Alexander; children and spouses, Jim Alexander, III and wife, Lucinda "Cindy", Kim Hutchins and husband David; grandchildren, Craig and Brent Alexander, Courtney, Alex and Suddy Hutchins all of Knoxville; sister, Barbara Ann Proffit and husband Bill of Richmond, VA; mother-in-law, Iva A. Blevins of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. The family and friends will meet Wednesday at Highland Memorial Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service followed by a 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Service at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church with Dr. William R. Barron officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, 3700 Keowee Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37919. WE WERE FRIENDS IN COLLEGE WITH JIM AND MARGIE AND JIM AND I WERE FRIENDS AND BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL TEAM MEMBERS AT BENEDICTINE HIGH SCHOOL IN RICHMOND, VA. I DID NOT PLAY BASEBALL BUT JIM DID AND WAS AVERY GOOD PITCHER . AT BENEDICTINE , HE WAS QUITE ACTIVE, WELL LIKED AND A HIGH RANKING OFFICER IN THE CADET CORPS . WE HAVE MANY GOOD MEMORIES AND OUR LOVE AND GOD'S LOVE BE WITH MARGIE AND ALL FAMILY MEMBERS IN YOUR TIME OF GRIEF.
