Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know John, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

We became acquainted with J.R. when our daughter was a student at Mary Baldwin. We had the pleasure of having him as a guest in our home, and spent many hours with him while visiting at MBC. It is a loss to many who cared for him, and found his humor and love of life to be contagious. Every time a flag flies, everytime we hear the Star Spangled Banner, everytime we hear or see anything that uplifts our country, we will think of J.R. We offer sympathy which seems so inadequate, but we also offer thanks to J.R. and those that proudly serve. Our prayers are with you and those that loved him. Please know that he will be remembered.

Dear Mr And Mrs Teal,

I want to express my sincere sorrow at the news of the loss of your son. JR and I first met during college while he was visiting friends at JMU. We later spent six months attending an Army course together. Many times we talked about many of life. Your son was a great man, soldier and person. His enthusiasm for life picked everyone up. Tonight I was reading the Seattle Times when I read about your son. My wife and I talked about JR for many hours. It brought us to cry and share our emotions as I will leave my family to serve in Iraq later this month. John was truly a hero and every American should be proud of his service.

God bless you during this difficult time.

He was my date to our Junior Dad's Dance and I attended Ring Figure with him. We have stayed in touch over the years and I just e-mailed him a few weeks ago. I was absolutley shocked by the news. He was such a special person who was so full of life. Over the past few days, I have gone through all of my pictures I have of JR, each one making me smile and cry at the same time. I knew J.R. when I attended Mary Baldwin College and he attended VMI. He was a character in the finest sense. He had a great sense of humor, full of fun and life, and a very fine young man. I have some great pictures from our college days and will treasure them. I wish to convey my deep sympathy to his parents, sister, family and friends. I am so saddened by his death.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Teal,

You don't know me, but I had the opportunity to serve with your son, John, in Baqubah, Iraq. I was assigned there as a liason officer for my unit for a month and a half.

I worked in the same area as your son and got to know him on a personal level. He did not hesitate to make me feel at home in the unit, as I was a stranger and didn't know anyone there. He was generous, helpful, and approachable. I enjoyed our late night conversations with the other captains in the plans tent. John always had us rolling with his stories. I will never forget how his gentle sarcasm and nothing-can-bother-me attitude made it easier on all of us to go on, day by day.

Even the pilots in our Air Cav troop, whom I was supporting, knew John through their interactions at 2 BDE. We were all shocked and saddened to learn of his death earlier this week. While I am sure that nothing I can say will make the loss easier to bear, I want you to know that John made an impact on many, many of us serving over here and he will not be forgotten.

I was amazed to learn that John was from Richmond as well. I went to St. Christopher's and had several close friends at Benedictine. It was great to talk to someone from Richmond and reminisce about old times there. PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me at the supplied email address if my family or I can help you in any way.

ver respectfully,

I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a fine young man with a great sense of humor. Words cannot explain my sorrow. I can remember the time he came home dressed in a priest outfit. With that grin on his face. Dawn's first comment when she heard the news was "I changed his diapers" Dean was just in shock. We all grieve with you. Jim sends his love also.
