Kirk Hoag Obituary

Hoag, Kirk J. "John"

Lansing: Kirk J. Hoag, "John", age 89, passed away on March 31, 2012 in the comfort of his Lansing home. Born February 10, 1923 in Norwich, NY, John was the youngest son of the late Kirk M. and Lula (Shorter) Hoag. John spent his early days working on the family farm until he married his wife, Clarice Baker Hoag, in 1944. During WWII John and Clarice lived in Buffalo, where John worked at Curtiss-Wright as a riveter on the P40, C46 and P47 aircrafts. In 1947, John and Clarice moved to Lansing where he was employed with the Lansing School District as head custodian and bus driver until his retirement in 1978. He was also the Clerk of The Works during the construction of Woodsedge Senior Apartments. John enjoyed camping on the St. Lawrence River, hunting, fishing, gardening and sports. He also loved woodworking and carpentry, which motivated him to get involved in many building projects throughout the years. Of all John's interests and accomplishments, his greatest joy in life was time spent with his family. He enjoyed the constant flow of loved ones and friends stopping by to visit. John was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two brothers, Robert and Lawrence Hoag. He is survived by his children, Linda Parker (Sherwin DiSanto) of Lansing, Betty (Harlan) Redder of Lansing, Gerald (Joann) Hoag of Virginia, Susan (Randy) Bowman of Lansing, Janet Hoag of Lansing and Jane Hoag of Lansing; grandchildren, Amy (Randy) Lattin, Matthew Hoag, Tonia (Ricky) Landon, Sarah (Ben) Landry, Jon (Kimberly Jetty) Bowman, Julie (James) Hatfield, Cathleen (Ben) Teeter, Robin (Dan) Austin, Casie (Nick) Smith, Kelley Collins (Dan), Christopher Inman (Jessica), Jesse Bush and Lauri Bush; great-grandchildren, Keegan and Kaylynn Lattin, Easton Landon, Hayden Hatfield, Bryce Eastman, Garrett and Brendan Kirk Austin, Dalton Smith, Haley and Kendal Collins and Morgan Fedrizzi. John is also survived by his sister, Grace Carnal; sister-in-law, Mary Baker; brother-in-law, Gaynard Baker; and many nieces and nephews. Those wishing to remember John in the form of a contribution may consider Michael J. Fox Foundation, Church Street Station, PO Box 780, New York, NY 10008. Family will be present to receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 5th, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY, followed by a private prayer service for family.

We were so sorry to learn of your Father's death. He was a special man who always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. He and your Mom were "second parents" to our daughters as they diligently cared for them while we worked. They were a unique couple and a fantastic role model for our children. May you be helped at this difficult time by the many precious memories you have of your Dad. We hold you in our thoughts and prayers.
