Sincere condolences to all of Mr. Vickery's family. The outstanding ag. teacher was a big influence on my pursuing the same career path. I was fortunate to call him Mr. Vickery and then Charlie when he substituted for me at O'Connor H.S. I always looked forward to a joke that I knew he would have. He never let me down. He will truly be missed.

I'm sorry for your loss but I know from experience how difficult it is to lose someone twice, once to Alzheimer's and then to this earthly life itself, especially someone who was so robust, active, and contributed so much. I remember Mr. Vickery, Charles, not only as John's Dad, but also as a fellow vocational teacher when I also taught at JMHS (a lifetime ago). I also remember while a student at Marshall when FFA was THE largest in the state thanks to girls becoming members. His dedication and fortitude kept many teens in school, giving them more than the three R's. He was quiet but fun and was truly one of the "good ole' guys." I loved he later took care of animals for some students long after teaching and when the disease had started taking hold. His legacy will long live on through the tremendous contributions he made which he thankfully knew were recognized with the Walter Gerlach Livestock Show and his namesake at O'Connor. I do pray you find the blessings that the Lord offers of peace, love, grace, and joy too. Vickery was indeed victorious!

Its been 40 years since I was subject to Mr. Vickery's instruction and discipline in the classroom but his teachings are with me daily. He was a "GREAT" educator and will truly be missed.(I still have a piece of his paddle we cut up the last day of our senior year to remind me)
