Andrew Hagelstein Obituary

BOERNE Andrew Lane Hagelstein, 30, of Boerne, Texas, died July 20, 2012.

He was born January 20, 1982 in Odessa, Texas.
He is survived by his wife Heidi and two sons Scottie and Noah, of Boerne, Texas; parents Gregg and Kristin Hagelstein of Fredericksburg and Armando and Mari Leal of Odessa, Texas; sister Riley Ussery and husband John of Royse City, Texas; sister Carla Harless and husband Mike of Midland, Texas; brother Neil Collinsworth and wife Amy of Forney, Texas; brother Andy Leal and wife Estella of Odessa, Texas; brother Cipri and wife Amber of Odessa, Texas; several nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Hans and Evelyn Hagelstein of San Angelo, Texas, and Gordon and JoAnn Smith of Odessa, Texas.

Andrew was very funny – he loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He was friendly and outgoing and never met a stranger. Family, friends, and co-workers were always giving him a nickname; from Boogernut Kid to Andrew Pandrew, Paco, Beaver, and many more. He enjoyed being around people and especially loved holidays and family reunions and gatherings. He was incredibly loyal to those he loved and cared deeply about his family and friends. He was very energetic and at times was just a "big kid," who loved to play and have fun. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just being outdoors, playing fantasy football, going to high school football games, watching NBA basketball and the Dallas Cowboys, watching movies, listening to music, and eating (large amounts and never gaining a pound). He loved playing video games and drinking Dr. Pepper.

Andrew grew up in the First Presbyterian Church in Odessa and later became a deacon. He felt like he was at home in the church.

He loved the church and he loved the people.

Andrew faced a lot of life challenges. He bravely battled and survived cancer. Through it all, he maintained strength, a positive attitude, and a strong faith in God.

Andrew will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gregg, Kristen, and Riley-we are all very deeply sorry for your loss. Andrew was a very fun person to be around, and we had some really great conversation while we were driving to Fredericksburg(when Nancey and Kristen missed the exit). I write this with a heavy heart. I knew Andrew and Riley when they were young and had the priviledge of working with Gregg. RIP Andrew.

I had not seen Andrew much in his adult life but still hold strong memories from his childhood. The clearest are from when he was in plays with my children. He was a lively little boy with enough energy to have played all the characters in the play, if he had been needed to do that. I am very glad I had the opportunity to meet lovely Heidi at her baby shower. He very much loved her and their boys. I am blessed to know him, Kristin, Gregg and their other children.

My prayers go out to the family of Andrew. While I never knew him, his grandmother had taught me in Sunday School many years ago, and I do remember his mother and aunts from those days. My prayers go out for Mari and the rest of the family. May God offer peace and comfort to you.
