Anna Marie Denney

Denney, Anna Marie CRESENT Anna Marie Thomas Denney, 89, of New Loudon Road, Town of Colonie, died on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Alive Hospice at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.. Born August 30, 1923 in Liberty, N.C., she was the daughter of the late A. Clay and Lalah Daffron Thomas. Raised in a musical family, Anna spent her youth singing with her family at church functions and socials. She and her brother Calvin and sister Maxine later performed as "The Thomas Family Trio" on "The Oklahoma Round-Up" radio show in Oklahoma City, Okla. She and her husband, the late Dave Denney, owned and operated Dave Denney's Barn, currently Grace Bible Church (Crescent). They were credited with bringing country music to the Albany area in the early 50's. Signing on as "Dave Denney & Anna Marie Thomas," they greeted listeners with their unique style of humor and song on their popular live radio broadcast on WTRY. Upon her retirement in 2003 Mrs. Denney shared her love of exercise with her many loving friends in "Silver Sneakers" at ABC Sports and Fitness center. She had moved to Nashville, Tenn. earlier this year in order to be near her sister and daughter. She was a member of United Church of Cohoes. Preceded in death by daughter, Sharon Gilbert, brother A. Calvin Thomas and sister Mary L. Johnson, she is survived by sister Maxine F. Gold of Nashville, Tenn. Devoted mother of Charmaine (Don K.) Cook of Nashville, Tenn., Derrick (Denise) Denney of Crescent, Mark (Anne) Denney of Calif. and Kirk Denney of Crescent. Cherished grandmother of Michael McCollum, David (Anna) Denney, Tadd (Amanda) Akley, Mary Katherine Cook, Matthew, Alex, Daniel and Reed Denney; adored great-grandmother of Jacob Thomas and Jack Daniel Akley; she is also survived by devoted son-in-law Don Gilbert of Rensselaer. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Grace Bible Church, 1279 New Loudon Rd. (RT-9 in Crescent), Cohoes, NY 12047. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9 in Clifton Park. Interment will be held in Crescent Union Cemetery, Halfmoon. The family wishes to thank Pastor Beckwith at Grace Bible Church and Pastor John Knarvik of Good Shepard Church in Loudonville.
