PFC Jeffrey Francis Braun, 19, of Westford Rd., Stafford Springs, died Thursday (December 11, 2003), while serving his country in Iraq. Jeff was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on July 24, 1984. Jeff was a 2002 graduate of Stafford High School, where he was active in sports, including soccer, his first love, track and field, and wrestling. He was also active in music and the service corp., and worked at local businesses. Jeff was a member of St. Edward Parish where he served as a lector. He was a paratrooper with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division stationed in Iraq. Jeff touched the lives of so very many people. His unselfish nature, love of life, intelligence, enthusiasm, and desire to protect the less fortunate combined to make him a very special and unique young man. Jeff was actively pursuing his dream of building an orphanage in his birth country of Honduras and he never deviated from his goal of becoming a physical education teacher following his military service. Jeff lived an honorable life, did not shy away from the risks of serving his adopted country, and was directly responsible for helping secure our national freedom. He is a true hero. Jeff is survived by his loving parents, William E. and Meredith E. (Monti) Braun; a devoted sister, Julie Braun all of Stafford Springs; his maternal grandparents, Francis and Ruth Monti of Massapequa, Long Island, NY; an uncle and aunt, Rod and Lisa Monti; a cousin, Zoe Monti all of England; and many family members and dear friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 19, at 1 p.m. at St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Jeffrey F. Braun Fund, Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Stafford, Stafford Savings Bank, c/o Rose Roszczewski, P.O. Box 25, Stafford Springs, CT 06076. Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs has care of the arrangements.

I served with Braun in Iraq. He was a goofy, funny great guy. Everyone loved Braun. I just want his family and loved ones to know that I still think about him a lot and he is not forgotten by the men her served with.

In Memory of Jeffrey ~ (Debra Estep)
December 12, 2008
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Jeffrey, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Braun Family,
I realize there is NOTHING that could be said to you that could ever ease the loss that your family has endured... I wouldn't even begin to try.
I simply felt the need to convey my deepest, heart felt condolences, to those that lived nearest me...
I SIMPLY HAD TO reach out to those that lived closest to me and let their families know that the sacrifice that their SONS & DAUGHTERS have made ARE NOT, and WILL NOT be forgotten, and were not made in vain!
We gladly add your beloved son to our prayers, along with ALL of our other fallen Sons & Daughters!
God Bless YOU and YOUR FAMILY, and "MAY THE PEACE OF THE LORD BE WITH YOU!"

Dear Meredith,
I cannot tell you the heartache that I feel right now. We moved to Illinois over 5 years ago (to be closer to our kids) and I still get on the Internet to check out the happenings from the JI and Hartford Courant. When I saw the name "Braun" in the obits - I had to check it out. Here it's your son!!!!!! My heart truly aches for you. I can't imagine what a devastating time this must be. Please know that my deepest sympathy and prayers will be with you and somehow may God fill that deep void that is and will be in your heart. When we worked at TMS together, your kids were just little ones - now these many years later, your son was taken doing his duty for our country! You have reasons to be proud too - but what a difficult thing to have to go through! Love, Sandy

Dear Merri, Bill and Julie,
It has been a long time since I have seen your family. I remember Jeff as a small boy. It is very obvious that he had become a very special person to a lot of people. When I read that he was in the 82nd Airborne division it certainly brought back memories of my husband who also served with the 82nd. You had to be a real man to serve with the 82nd. I have no doubt that Jeff was a real man. He served his country proudly. We will never forget his bravery. He will always be in your hearts and as time goes by your open wounds will heal. Jeff is gone but he will never be forgotten. My prayer for your family is that our Heavenly Father will be with you and give you the strength to make it through this extremely difficult time. My love and thoughts are with you. Your friend, Lois

To the Braun Family - Words seem so inadequate at this time, but I just wanted you to know that I remember Jeff from Madrigals and Show Choir with our son Chris. He was a great kid and my heart breaks for you. Last weekend Chris pulled out his pictures of the Bahama cruise he went on in his Junior year when Jeff was a Freshman. He has many great memories of Jeff. Chris really wanted to attend the service for Jeff, but unfortunately he has one last final he has to take at the same time. He wanted you to know that he will be thinking of Jeff.
God Bless you.

Merri, Bill and Julie
you will read some of this in a card that is coming to you - but wanted to also share here in the guest book. Bill, I briefly talked with you the other night, fumbled through my words not knowing what to say - I really did want to just let you all know you are foremost in my thoughts and prayers these days. I haven't had the opportunity to see you in a long time and our main connection over the past years has been through Christmas cards. Regardless, Merri and Bill you played such an integral part in my life from when I was about 12 until I headed off to college. I so appreciate the belief you had in my abilities back then and I know that Jeff received that and more from you. The fact that he had so many dreams that he seemingly had started to follow is a direct reflection on the parents that have been guiding him. I feel fortunate to have known Jeff's story and to have met him when he was younger and I do wish I was able to know the young man that he had become. My prayers are continuous for you during this time and though I am not physically close, I am there supporting you, hugging you and sending my love in spirit. God bless you. love Dee Dee
