Linda DeMartini Obituary

Linda K. DeMartini, ASID

September 11, 1950 - January 18, 2018

Linda was the daughter of Raymond Garland Ford and Kathleen Daphne Dougan and the granddaughter of David Roy and Minnie Lee Ford and Lowry Roe and Ruby Lenora ("Bomber") Dougan. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri until the allure of California drew her west.
Linda began her career working for the government. She met her future husband James G.B. DeMartini III (Jim), and they were married in 1974. Linda and Jim raised their three sons on the Peninsula in Foster City and then Hillsborough. They were the perfect match as they embraced life together providing a shining example of love and devotion to each other, their children and grandchildren, and anyone who knew them. Linda's creative talent when combined with her sharp eye for design led to a very successful career as an interior designer with her work published in design magazines. Her passion for genealogy led her to travel the world and organize a local genealogy group in search of the family history. Later in life, Linda became an avid and excellent golfer; she loved the integrity and challenge of the game.
Throughout her life, Linda was heavily involved in charitable organizations and activities. Her influence, care, and compassion reached far into the communities in which she lived and to her extended family, including a close and loving relationship with Jim's parents who both passed away in 2017. She adored her grandchildren who gave her energy and joy while battling cancer.
Linda is survived by her husband of 44 years James G.B. DeMartini, III; three sons James G.B. De Martini IV (Megan), Christopher S. DeMartini (Megan) and Vance G. DeMartini; stepdaughter Julie Ann Rosendahl and six beloved grandchildren Mia Kathleen, Abigail Maryann, Ashley Ann, Madelyn Grace, James G.B. V, and Olivia Kathleen DeMartini; 5 siblings and a large extended family.
Services are scheduled at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2018, Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010 with a reception immediately following at Peninsula Golf & Country Club, 701 Madera Drive, San Mateo, CA.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Stanford Health Care Special Patient Services, 300 Pasteur Drive, Suite H3253, Stanford, CA 94305-5229 Attn: Judy Kaufman.

I was searching the internet and was sad to learn that Linda had passed away. In 1973 I started working for the government and Linda hired me as a clerk typist. That started me on a successful journey working for the federal government for the next 35 years. She was the best supervisor that I had in my years with the government. She treated me with respect and had confidence in my ability to get the job done. She will be dearly missed by all.

As the DeMartini cousins of Jim and Linda, our hearts are saddened to hear of Linda's passing. Linda started the DeMartini family gatherings each year and she and Jim graciously opened their home to DeMartini reunions that were like no other. We talked, shared, laughed, laughed a lot more, ate like Italians do and stayed, I'm sure way longer than anyone planned! Truly delightful days and memories for a lifetime. Not only did we get to meet Jim and Linda, we got to meet Jim's parents and children, yet more generations of DeMartinis. Sadly, we lost Jim's parents too last year.

Linda worked tirelessly, working with all of the Lorsica DeMartini cousins, to put the family history together that their family, and all of ours, will treasure for a lifetime.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim and the rest of their family.

I was searching for another obituary and find it interesting that I am not the first person to say I did not know Linda DeMartini. I have to agree her picture gives the sense of a nice and caring woman who accomplished a great deal in her life. She was very pretty, too, and I do wish her family, friends, and colleagues that the personal and many happy memories as well as all the accomplishments she achieved in her life as a good family woman, a charitable worker, and in her career as an interior designer will remind them of a life well-lived.

My condolences to the DeMartini Family. Linda and I worked on projects together in interior design and it was a pleasure working with her. I also got to see her beautiful smile at SF Giants games from time to time. She had such style and grace.

I don't know Linda. I just saw her photo and her smile.
I do not mean to intrude, but for some reason, her photo seemed to jump out, and it touched me.

From her picture, it immediately became clear that she was a good person, A happy and joyful person that could have been a friend. A person who changed things by her mere presence. Please accept my condolences.

As you continue to reflect on Lindas life, please remember there is only one true God, and his name can be found at Psalms chapter 83, Verse 18. He is a Spirit; you cannot see him, but he sees you. He knows your pain and sorrow, He loves you, and he wants you to love him in return.
