Lilajane Frascarelli Obituary

Frascarelli, Lilajane TROY Lilajane Frascarelli, nee Hiatt, died on December 20, 2020, in Troy, from advanced dementia at the age of 91. Angelo Frascarelli, her husband of 60 plus years, preceded her in death on May 29, 2016, from bacterial pneumonia. The girl from Winfield, Kan. and the first-generation Italian boy from Chicago Heights, Ill. met as freshmen at the Eastman School of Music. Lilajane and Angelo retired in July 1994 after 24 years of teaching music and conducting ensembles at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. They have been faculty, orchestra and chamber music performers, and conductors in New York (Rochester Philharmonic, Shaporelli String Quartet, Albany Winds & Strings, Capital Chamber Artists), Indiana (Ball State Teachers College, Muncie Symphony), Mississippi (Mississippi Southern College, Amphion String Quartet, Baton Rouge Symphony; Memphis Symphonietta), and Pennsylvania (Reading and Lancaster Symphonies, Orchestra of Pennsylvania Ballet, Cherry Hill Philharmonic). Lilajane was a member of the Albany Symphony Orchestra for 33 years. Lilajane and Angelo are survived by their daughters, Joan Quinque Horgan and her partner, James Barber of Columbiaville, N.Y., Anne Ellen Frascarelli of Pelham, N.Y.; and their grandson, James Theodore Horgan of Clinton Township, Mich. We would not have been able to honor our parent's last wishes without the indispensable assistance of Mandy Hudson. Family friends, Mark, Erin, Beverly, Tony, Andy and others too numerous to list have also earned our heartfelt thanks. Robin Connolly, Donna Heffernan, Kevin King, Elizabeth Hanlon and Jean Endryk provided essential in-home medical care. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Angelo and Lilajane's memory to the Eastman School of Music, Dean's Violin Fund. Your gift may be mailed to the University of Rochester, Office of Gifts and Donor Records, Box 270032, Rochester, NY, 14627 or made online at esm.rochester.edu/gift. Lilajane and Angelo were great teachers who cultivated in me and their many other students appreciation of violin music and the other fine arts.

I remember Angelo and Lilajean from the various musical forums in the Troy area in which my deceased husband, Robert Couture, was involved. I wish to extend my sympathies to the family.
