William Wade Wise of San Antonio, Texas passed away on January 16, 2021. Wade had just celebrated his 65th birthday five days prior. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Jackie and Bill Wise. Wade attended the University of Texas, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta (Texas FIJI) fraternity. He was a member of; The Order of the Alamo, The San Antonio German Club, The San Antonio Country Club, Club Giraud and The Argyle.
Wade was a financial advisor and was dedicated to his profession as both a manager and a producer. He began his career in Midland, Texas before moving back to San Antonio. Wade worked for EF Hutton and UBS before joining Hilltop Securities. Wade found his true vocation when he met his wife Susan and they were married on August 22, 1987. Wade was instantly a father, and took to that new distinction like a fish to water. He went from watching movies with his cat, Fulton, to slumber parties and soccer with 9-year-old boys he barely knew. Everyone loved him in this new role. Wade leaves behind his wife Susan, daughters Ellen and Molly, who live nearby in San Antonio and son Corby and his wife Megan who reside in Austin, grandchildren Blair, Harper, Cinco and Bobby. He was a loving and devoted son to his mother Jackie Wise and brother to his sister Candy Gregory and nieces Allison and Holly, all in San Antonio. Preceding him in death was his father, Bill Levoy Wise. Wade embodied a great spirit of fatherhood. His warmth and love were well shared with each of his children and grandchildren. Wade was a loving husband to Susan until his death – they shared 34 years in marriage. Wade was thrilled when Corby and Molly both followed in his footsteps in attending the University of Texas and took pride in watching Ellen grow at the University of Mississippi. Wade welcomed with joy each of his grandchildren. He brought the same energy and conviction to his role as a grandfather as he did to his role as a father. The kids especially loved him acting like the "Gonky Bird" where he would tickle them acting like a bird was attacking them. He was always there for the kids and grandkids alike from beginning until the end.
Wade was a great conversationalist with exceptional wit and you could not walk away from him without thinking "what a nice guy". Friends and acquaintances alike were glad to see "Wado" at a gathering - his warm smile and great handshake conveyed that Wade was glad to see you and share a thought. Wade had a deep vocabulary that he used well to convey his friendship. Wade was a skilled drummer and a lifelong Beatles enthusiast; he and Ellen really bonded through music. He was a collector of all things aviation, especially Naval fighter jets. His collection of squadron insignia patches would rival any museum's. He was also immensely interested in history and was a voracious reader. Wade was a true horologist and enjoyed discussing all timepieces.
Services were held at 11:30am on Saturday, January 23 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels and Cemetery-Dominion. While Wade's untimely passing comes as a great shock to his family, they are comforted by memories of his warmth of spirit and character and the legacy of friendship and fatherhood he leaves behind. Susan and family- I am heartsick for all of you. I was a rookie with Wade in Midland, worked with him in San Antonio when he was with my manager and have stayed up with Wade all throughout our careers. It seems like yesterday he was congratulating me on my retirement. He will be sorely missed. Deborah Wachsmuth
