Marion Daileader Obituary

Daileader, Marion Pertel SARATOGA SPRINGS Marion Pertel Daileader passed away peacefully at her home in Saratoga Springs on March 25, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was 91. Marion was born to Laura and Joseph Pertel in Chicago, Ill., the oldest of their four children. She was predeceased by brother Joseph and sister Joan May and survived by her youngest brother Richard (Patricia). Marion attended St. Rita's Elementary School in Chicago, then graduated from Mercy High School there. She earned her bachelor's degree from Chicago Teachers College and then went on to teach home economics in the Chicago Public Schools. Marion met her husband-to-be when she was coaxed into preparing a home-cooked dinner for some starving college students. Despite some issues with the gravy, Robert Daileader was smitten, and in 1953 Marion and Bob were married at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Chicago. That first meal was a prelude to thousands more, as Marion gave birth to seven children in the span of ten years. She honed her now considerable skills in cooking and ran an astonishingly organized household with a full schedule of children's sports, clubs, religious education, and school events. Any free moments left in the day were cheerfully doled out to volunteering. She taught religious education at St. Edward's Roman Catholic Church in Clifton Park for 20 years and sat on the parish board for the building of the new church. And dipping ever deeper into that incredible store of energy, Marion found time to engage in her love of gardening, sewing, quilting, entertaining, and reading. Once their youngest child started attending kindergarten, there was a whole new chapter awaiting Marion. She decided to get her master's degree in education from the State University of New York/Albany. She taught seventh grade home economics for 25 years at Koda Middle School in Clifton Park, a career she loved. Marion retired from teaching in 1992 but was at no loss for things to keep her busy. After she and Bob downsized from their house in Clifton Knolls, where they had lived for 34 years, they started a new adventure at Coburg Village in Rexford. Marion was a founding member of a quilting group called "The Piecemakers," ran the Craft Room at Coburg for 10 years, and hosted Book Clubs while volunteering in the Coburg library. She enjoyed her expanded role now as Grandmother to 23 grandchildren, giving her the opportunity to travel, which she always loved to do. Marion and Bob moved up to the Summit Senior Living in Saratoga Springs in 2017. She spent two years at the Woodlawn Commons Assisted Living Facility in Saratoga to help manage some medical issues until the crushing isolation brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic led loved ones to bring her home to the Summit Senior Living and the company and care of family and friends. Marion was the beloved mother of Robert (Dale), Linda Swenson, Richard (Laura Lawton), Thomas (Trudy), Mary Greenier (Ernie), Mark (Susan) and John (Mimi). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Meg Wilbur (Chris), Kimberly Daileader, Brian Swenson, Chris Daileader, Kathryn Kyle Daileader, Michael Swenson (Courtney), Shannon Jones (Nelson), Madeline Greenier, Miles Daileader (Jenalee), Cormick Daileader, Joseph Daileader, Jackson Greenier, Bowen Daileader, Thomas Greenier, Justin Daileader, Shelby Sibilio, Matthew Daileader, Logan Sibilio, Katie Daileader, William Daileader, Carson Sibilio, Luke Sibilio, Sophie Daileader. She would have loved to watch her great-grandchildren grow up: Sam, Luke, and Charlie Wilbur and Dalton, Henrik and Eloise Daileader. Every single one of her beloved family has at least one quilt sewn by the loving hands of Marion. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. There will be a wake for Marion on Friday, April 9, 2021, from 4 till 7 p.m. at Tuniston Funeral Home, 105 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs (https://www.tunisonfuneralhome.com). A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021, in St. Clements Catholic Church, 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs (https://stclementschurch.com/). Marion will be interred in the Gerald B. H. Soloman Saratoga National Veterans Cemetery in a private ceremony for family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Marion's favorite charities: St. Joseph's Indian School (https://www.stjo.org/), Boys Town (https://www.boystown.org/Pages/default.aspx), Wounded Warriors (https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org)

Mrs. Daileader was my home economics teacher in 1979-1980 when I was in 7th grade at Koda Middle School. She was a kind, humorous and wonderful teacher to me and my classmates and I thoroughly enjoyed her classes with all the delicious foods she taught us to make. I'll never forget her one command when making cornbread.........."Don't overmix the batter!" After about 25 years since being in her class, I ran into her again on several different occasions at the barbershop on Route 9 we both shared and she shockingly recognized me the first time right away! We caught up on life since Koda and she was so full of energy and spirit! I'm sure many other students of hers had good memories of Mrs. Daileader and my condolences to all her family.
