Cornelius McCarty Obituary

Cornelius Francis McCarty, Jr.
Cornelius Francis McCarty, Jr. (Connie), passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at the age of 88. Connie was born in Greenwich, CT to Cornelius Francis McCarty and Nellie Turner McCarty. He graduated from The University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana in 1955. After graduating college, he spent two years in the Finance Corps of the US Army. He and his wife Margaret married and had two wonderful children. After a long career, first in the moving and storage business and then in real estate, Connie and Marge retired to Cape Cod, where they spent nearly 20 happy years before moving to Hingham, Massachusetts.
A devoted Catholic, Connie loved his family and he derived great enjoyment giving back to others. He did so with numerous organizations in Greenwich including the Rotary Club and serving on the Board of Directors of Nathaniel Witherell. On Cape Cod, he continued his volunteer efforts as a member of the Rotary Club, through activities with his church and as a driver for Meals on Wheels. He greatly enjoyed being a Volunteer Ranger at the National Sea Shore, and loved leading tours, meeting people and sharing his love for the history of the region. An avid boater, he loved fishing and being on or near the water.
Connie was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Jeanne Gannon, and his nephew, William Gannon. He is survived by his beloved wife Marge, his son Robert McCarty, his daughter Mary McCarty Manning (Sean), his nephew and God son, James Gannon (Nicole), his niece Laura Gannon Turner (Michael), and 14 grand and great-grandnieces and nephews. A private service and burial are planned. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.

So sorry to hear about Connie. I have so many memories of him from when we were neighbors, when we visited the Cape with my Mom and at your wedding Mary. Such a lovely man. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Mrs. McCarty,

My name is Eric Kenney and my brother Ed and I worked at Doran Brothers in the late 1960´s thru the early 1970´s. My brother and I were both college students and worked at Doran Bros. during the summers. Connie hired me first and then my brother. My brother and I were deeply saddened to learn of Connie´s passing. Please accept our heart felt condolences. Connie was such a wonderful person to us and we are incredibly grateful that he hired us. You can´t imagine how often we reminisce about our many adventures at Doran Bros. and all the great people working there. Connie was very well liked and respected by all the men working there, and it was a tough crowd too. Dennis and Dan, along with Frank Mohamed were part of the crew joined by the three Kalata Brothers (Frank, Ed, and Stash). They all really liked Connie and appreciated everything he did for them. Please accept our deepest sympathy.
