Ann Jordan Obituary

Ann Jordan was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 8, 1935, and died on January 10, 2023.

Ann attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she was initiated into the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. During her senior year, she served as president. She was on the Cactus yearbook staff and was an editor. She received her BA in Journalism with a teacher certification. Upon graduation, she married Jack Jordan and they moved to San Antonio. She began her teaching career at Page Junior High. When she had her first child, she decided to take 16-year maternity leave to raise her children. She decided it was time to resume her teaching career as the English Department Coordinator at Stevenson Middle School. She also was the Wildcat Whispers Newspaper advisor that was awarded Best Texas Middle School Newspaper by the U.I.L. She also taught English at Eisenhower Middle School, and she coached Odyssey of the Mind. While at Eisenhower Middle School, she was recognized by the North East Independent School District as the Middle School Teacher of the Year. She had the opportunity to teach English at Holmes High School and taught there until she retired. Holmes High School held a special place in her heart because her husband was the first principal and she had written their Alma Mater when the school opened. In 2019, she was asked to write an Alma Mater for Jordan Middle School's 25th anniversary.

Ann was an active member in several organizations, including Alpha Circle at University United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Alpha Gamma Delta Alumni Association. In each of these organizations, she served as President and in other leadership positions. She also served on the Baskin Elementary PTA, and as room mom for all three of her daughters' classes. The skills and values she learned as a Girl Scout were pivotal to her decision to be a Girl Scout Troop Leader for her oldest daughter.

In retirement, she used her writing skills to write a novel, "Gemini," and wrote many articles for "Apple Seeds" magazine.
She also continued her travels around the world with her husband visiting numerous places in Europe, Russia, Egypt, China, Canada, California, Washington DC, Boston, and Israel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Wood H. Patrick and Anna Lorena Patrick; her loving husband of 61 years, Jack Jordan; and her twin brothers, Donald Patrick and David Patrick. She is survived by her three daughters, Julie Horn of Dallas; Jennifer Jordan of San Antonio; and Jeanine Haley (Raymon) of Gatesville; grandchildren, Kelsey Horn, Patrick Horn, Shelby Crane (David), Sara Jordan; great-grandchild, Breanna Crane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 11 am at University United Methodist Church, 5084 DeZavala Road, with a reception to follow. Interment will be held at a later date in Fort Sam Houston Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ann Jordan Writing Awards at Jordan Middle School. Donations should be labeled as a donation for the Ann Jordan Writing Awards and mailed or dropped off at Jack C. Jordan Middle School, 1725 Richland Hills, San Antonio, Texas 78251.
