I am deeply heart broken to learn of the passing of Jim and send my deepest condolences to Trish and his family. Jim was not only a fraternity brother but also a friend. We lost touch after he moved from Farmville, VA, much to my loss and regret. I will cherish the memories and wish only the best for those he left behind. One more angel in heaven!

Every time we ever met, I never failed to notice the glimmer in his eyes. He was never afraid to crack a joke. Always passionate about sports, and a notable singer, he lived his life as a devoted husband, father, and a dedicated member of the community. Truly a man with a big heart. We will miss you. "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." Matthew 11: 28-30

Jim was one of the best people that I had met in my life. His smile, chuckle and personality was the best ever. He always made you smile and glad to be around him. Did many games with him and was a great announcer and could sing.At basketball games you could hear him sing the National Anthem behind you. I knew he was a great family man. I will miss my dear friend and I pray for his family. I am sure now that he is making friends in heaven smile in heaven

Dear Trish,
I am so sorry sorry for your loss and the rest of the family! I only found out Jim was ill a few weeks ago.
I remember the great days and nights at the Sigma Nu house at H-SC. Jim was a great Big Brother and we were truly Mutt and Jeff. My most vivid memory was "trying" to keep him from putting something thru the picture window at the House after the senior party. Those were great days and he will be truly missed.
Our prayers go out to the whole family.

Jim was a great fraternity brother, two years younger than me. He was a true gentleman and always smiling and kind to everyone. Our fraternity motto is “to live in the life of love, to serve in the light of truth, and to walk in the way of honor.” Jim personified these ideals. Rest peacefully big guy.

Jim was one of the finest gentlemen Ive ever known. when he was sports editor for the Rome news, he would call me when it was time for the Rome Shrine annual classic football game. He would always write articles about our game encouraging people to support our cause in helping children with medical problems and I tink because of his articles we always had great turn outs. He will truly, truly be missed by all who knew him.

Jim and I worked together at Berry during his time working in the Sports Information office. No one made me feel more at home and gave me a good laugh like Jim did. Rest in peace and sing on. Until we meet again old friend.

My son Matthew and Will were together in school. I didn't know Mr. O'Hara well but he was always so kind and friendly when I would see him at St Mary's. He sang a beautiful song at my husband's funeral twenty-three years ago and I will forever remember that. A beautiful voice will be singing in Heaven now. Rest in peace.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Jim was a wonderful guy. I always enjoyed our conversations when I would call him at the Rome News to ask him to promote sign-ups or other events for my baseball or basketball teams I coached. Addionally, he was always so generous in giving great coverage to any sports related events our Rome Noon Optimist Club was sponsoring. My deepest sympathy goes to the family and my prayers for peace, grace, strength and comfort are with you all!

I am sadden to read of the passing of a friend and colleague. I worked with Jim for a number of years at Rome News-Tribune and as my life's path took me into Funeral Service our paths crossed again through St. Mary's Catholic Church. I never remember seeing Jim without a smile on his face and a bigger than life presence. The world needs many more Jim O'Haras

To Jim's family may God grant you peace and comfort during your time of sorrow.
