Hagerstown, MD - Astrid Elizabeth Pfeiffer, 89, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Born November 15, 1934, in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ernst Pfeiffer and Alice (Strobel) Pfeiffer.

Astrid was a 1951 high school graduate of Friends Academy in Locust Valley, NY. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University, Class of 1955. She also graduated from Wayne State University, Class of 1967, Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, and Columbia University, Executive Certificate Program in 1976.

She had been an attorney at Law at the law offices of Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft, Chubb & Son, Inc., and J.P. Mattimoe, and as Corporate Secretary at FPL Group, Inc.

She was a member of the American Bar Association, National Director and member of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, and President of the Southeast Region of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries. She was subcommittee chair of both the Science & Technology Section and the Committee on the Corporate Counsel of the American Bar Association.

She held bar certifications in Michigan, New York, and Florida.

Special Awards and Honors include: Wayne State University, Graduate Professional Award; Silver Scholarship Key Award; American Law Book Company Award; O'Dell, Hewlett & Luckenback Scholarship Award; Secretary, Student Board of Governors; Staff, Wayne Advocate; Phi Alpha Delta; and Alpha Kappa.

Astrid was married to Edmund Lee Gettier, III in 1956 and divorced in 1966.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth "Lisa" Jacque and husband, Alan, Edmund "Skip" Lee Gettier, IV, Sheila Ann Astrid Plungis and husband, Thomas, and David Brian Gettier and wife, Maria; and her grandchildren, Emily Sanson, Laura Bok, Robert "Bob" Jacque, Brian Plungis, Devon Plungis, and Daniela Darden. She was preceded in death by her son, Evan Ernest Gettier.

There will be a private burial service with close family held at Wildwood Cemetery, Amherst, Massachusetts.
