Ossipee, NH - Judith Elizabeth (Sylvester) DeMayo, 82, of Ossipee NH, formerly of Conway NH, passed away in the compassionate care of Mountain View Community Nursing Home in Ossipee, on April 2, 2024. Judie was born in Newton, MA on January 11, 1942, to Elizabeth Charlotte Browne Sylvester and Victor Sylvester, formerly of Bridgton, ME. She graduated from Stoneham (MA) High School in 1960. She married Don Chandler, Jr., in 1964, and moved to Lovell, ME. Their daughter Susan was born in 1967. Judie and Don separated in 1975, and Judie relocated to NH. She married John DeMayo of Newport, NH in 1984. Judie and John moved to Pittsburg, NH, following John's retirement, and then later lived in North Stratford, NH, until relocating to Fryeburg, ME, in 2002. John passed in 2004, and Judie moved to Center Conway, NH, in 2006, and finally to Mountain View summer 2023.

Judie was trained as a CNA in Westbrook in 1973 and volunteered as an EMT, served in several hospitals, and worked as a private duty nurse before pursuing studies in Human Services through Springfield College in the early 1990s. During this time, she worked for a number of years with Northern NH Mental Health and Developmental Services, and also trained and volunteered as a domestic and sexual violence counselor. Some years later, she worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart in No. Conway, where she made many friends.

Judie is predeceased by her husband, John DeMayo, her sister Muriel Maxey, brothers David, Dale, and Dana Moulton, of Lovell and Fryeburg, ME. She is survived by her daughter Sue Chandler and her partner Erin Miller of Westwood, MA, stepdaughter Tiffanie DeMayo and her partner Jon Currier of Newport, NH, nieces and nephews Darryll Maxey, Pam (Moulton) Ferguson, Sheldon Moulton, Rory Moulton, Christal (Moulton) Stewart, and Terrie (Moulton) Carlson. She also leaves behind a close network of dear sisters and friends in the AA community, with which she was very active since she began her recovery in 1991.

Visiting hours will take place Friday, May 31, 9:30am-10:45am at Fryeburg Community Recreation Complex, 59 Recreation Drive (off 302), upper level /2nd floor Senior Room. A funeral service will follow in the same location at 11:00am. A luncheon gathering will take place immediately following, at which guests are invited to share stories and memories. A private family burial will take place separately. Donations in Judie's memory can be made to Harvest Hills Animal Shelter in Fryeburg, or to an organization whose mission reminds you of Judie.
