Forrest Hammond Obituary

Forrest 'Frost' Hammond

Hartland, VT - Forrest 'Frost' Hammond, 68, was born July 12, 1956, in Windsor, VT to Basil and Laurene (Morrill) Hammond. Frost attended Hartland Elementary School, Windsor High School, and the University of Wyoming for his undergraduate and master's in wildlife biology.

Frost worked on elk, prairie dog, black footed-ferret, and black bear projects in WY before relocating back to Hartland, VT in 1989, where he worked as the black bear project leader here in VT, and the ACT 250 coordinator for the Southern part of the state where he retired in July of 2022. In 1992 he started dating and in 1996 married his best friend and partner Colleen (Morale) Hammond with whom he lived with in the Hartland, Reading, Weatherfield region and enjoyed laughing with while camping, backroad driving, front porch meals, bonfires, and chasing each other with sparklers for over 30 years.

Frost was a longtime member and instructor for the Coon Club and Hartland Big Game Club, the Hartland Community Church, where he spent 40 years in the kitchen helping with their annual roast beef dinners, and was an active member of the American Chestnut Foundation. He mentored many local kids during youth hunting season, as well as those looking to go into the field of biology. One of his favorite activities was working the game check stations each youth hunting season and hearing the stories from the first-time hunters. He was also a longtime board member of the MecCawe Fishing Club where he partook in rebuilding the caretaker's cottage, new boat house, and land management for better fishing and hunting.

Many knew Frost as an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman, as well as someone who truly enjoyed life with friends and family. He would laugh and hold his hand to his chest as he and his friends/family would speak of their adventures. Frost's favorite times were spending time with his friends and family, including his numerous nieces and nephews, playing games and doing outdoor activities such as tubing down the river.

In 1988 he was blessed with a daughter Kristina (Hammond) Rendon. Kristina was the light of his life and brought so much joy to him. He was so proud of her when she followed in his footsteps within the wildlife field. And was over the moon when his granddaughter, Bailey Hammond Rendon, was born in Cheyenne, WY in 2023.

Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday, November 6, from 4 - 6 pm at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. Condolences may be expressed to Frost's family in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com.

Colleen,

I was taken aback by seeing Frost's obituary today. I enjoyed knowing him and you when I was fishing at the trout club. I very occasionally saw him after I left the club and it was always a pleasant occasion. I will miss him.
My sincere condolences.

So saddened by the news of Frosty's passing. Such a good human being and one we all will miss. My condolences to his family at this time of such a loss. I will always remember his smile when checking deer at the Guilford Country Store. I thank God for giving us such a wonderful man.
