Mary E. (Stone) Choiniere

Greenfield, MA - Mary Elizabeth (Stone) Choiniere, aged 61, passed away tragically in a house fire on November 13, 2024 in Greenfield, MA. Born on November 6, 1963 to Richard and Eleanor Stone, Mary was known for her vibrant personality and indomitable spirit. Throughout her life, she brought joy and laughter to all who knew her, characterized by her kindness, caring nature and generosity. Mary's feisty, outspoken demeanor coupled with her quick wit made her a memorable presence.

Mary grew up in Holyoke and attended Holyoke High School. She dedicated many years to the hospitality industry, serving as a waitress and bartender. Mary met her husband Donald "Butch" Choiniere, while working at the former Bills Restaurant, marking the beginning of their loving partnership. She was well regarded by both customers and coworkers, creating lasting friendships and fond memories. Most recently, Mary worked at the Rendevous in Turners Falls, where she continued to be a cherished member of the community.

Mary's zest for life extended beyond her professional endeavors. She was an active member of her local gym and enjoyed hosting gatherings for family and friends. Her love for her dogs was evident in her frequent visits to local parks and river swims with them. Above all, Mary cherished her family, dedicating her time and energy to create a warm and welcoming home.

She is survived by her husband, Donald "Butch" Choiniere; stepsons, Donald Joslyn and Brandon Choiniere; grandchildren, Abigail, Aiden and Ashton Joslyn; siblings, Richard Stone, Susan Stone, Kathy Stone, Candy DeRoy, Debbie Rigali and Lisa Stone; many nieces and nephews; and her mother in law, Bert Choiniere.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, and two sisters, Bonnie Stone and Kristine Fortune.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Franklin County Sheriffs Office Regional Dog Shelter, 10 Sandy Lane, Turners Falls, MA 01376 or at the Rendevous to benefit the displaced survivor of the fire, close friend and tenant Dan.

Calling hours will be held Friday evening (11/22) from 4-6pm at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal Street, Greenfield. A brief service will be held at 6pm at the funeral home.
