Lynn Cowell Obituary

Lynn Vernice Cowell

Haines City, FL - Lynn Vernice Cowell, was born on September 6, 1942, in Northampton, MA, and passed away on November 25, 2024 in Winter Haven, Florida. Lynn was raised in Cummington, and graduated from Dalton High School in 1960. Lynn lived most of her adult life in Northampton, and most recently lived in Haines City, FL, where she spent the past 15 years enjoying her friends, golf, card games, daily early morning walks, and the year-round sunshine. Lynn was a loving sister and cherished aunt, known for her generosity, great sense of humor, and zest for life.

After attending Northampton Commercial College, Lynn worked at Kollmorgen Corporation, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, and for the City of Northampton.

Lynn was an excellent athlete, most notably an avid golfer, winning many tournaments throughout Western Massachusetts. In addition to her love of golf, Lynn enjoyed traveling throughout the world, which she did frequently with friends. In her retirement, she developed a love of the Jeopardy game show, often excitedly reciting answers before the contestants could finish the questions. Most of all though, Lynn had a special fondness for her large family, especially her parents, siblings and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she adored deeply. For many years, Lynn loved hosting the family Christmas party, where she always put on a feast and coordinated memorable Yankee swaps that the family still laughs about today. She will be remembered fondly for her passion for life, and leaves a legacy of laughter and love.

Lynn is predeceased by her father, Stanley Cowell, her mother Vernice Hodgkins Cowell, her mother Roberta Urban Cowell, and her brothers Robert Cowell, John Cowell, and Raymond Cushing. Lynn is survived by her sister Judith Cowell Meredith of Marshfield, MA; brothers Thomas Cowell of Bellingham, MA and Lorin Cowell of Brooklyn, NY; and her sister-in-law Donna Cushing, who was like a sister .

A gathering of friends and family will be held in the spring in Cummington. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lynn's memory may be made to the Talbot House in Lakeland, FL, who Lynn supported for many years by collecting clothing and household items from her community and delivering them to the shelter.
