It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Patrick Brian Shoptaw, who left this world far too soon on June 23, 2025. Born on May 30, 1986, in Memphis, Tennessee, Brian was abeloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and loyal friend whose life touched many.
Brian was the cherished son of Lisa Graves Shoptaw and Pat Shoptaw, and the brother of Michael Shoptaw (Christina). He was also the treasured grandson of Robert F. Graves and the late Marcia Graves, and the late Kathleen Fern Shoptaw and Daniel Clifton Shoptaw.
A graduate of Memphis University School, Brian achieved both academically and athletically. He continued his education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute receiving a degree in building construction engineering.
Following his graduation from Virginia Tech, Brian returned to Memphis to work alongside his father at Commercial Interior Finishes as an estimator/project manager.
Throughout his life, Brian was curious and intelligent. He was a humble man, described by a friend as being "soft spoken with a kind heart."
Brian will forever be remembered by those who loved him for those traits and many others.
A memorial service was held for Brian on Wednesday, July 9th at 1 P.M. at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland, Tennessee. Father Carl Jude Hood will be officiating.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Alliance Healthcare Services. Alliance Healthcare is a Memphis not-for-profit, serving the mental health needs in our community.
