Adeline Murray Obituary
Northampton, MA - Adeline Murray passed away July 2nd, after a very brief illness. She had an amazing 103 years of life. Born in Northampton on November 21, 1921 to Charles and Stella (Stanislova Majewski) Jasinski. She attended local schools and graduated from Northampton High School in 1940. She attended Northampton Commercial College and Charles F. Gaugh Business School. She then worked for the Federal Government at the Springfield Ordinance District from 1942-1946.
In September 1946, Adeline married Leon Murray. They had one daughter Andrea. The family enjoyed exploring New England and visiting relatives in upstate New York. Murray family picnics at Look Park were always a summer highlight.
Adeline started working for the City of Northampton in 1952. In 1963, she was appointed to a full-time position in the city clerk's office. In 1967, she was appointed Assistant City Clerk. In 1977, she was elected the first woman city clerk.
To relax after the hectic election season, she and Leon would travel to Florida for sun and fun.
Adeline enjoyed reading, knitting, and crafting. After retiring, she joined the "Crafter Ladies" of the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church to help with the annual Christmas Bazaar.
She enjoyed so much in her long life. Top on her list was getting together with friends and family for lunch or dinner. The "just because" lunches with family were a favorite of hers.
Adeline will be dearly missed by her daughter Andrea. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Leon (1990), her sisters Celia Blais and Irene Cloutier, and brothers Henry (infant) Mitchell, Stanley, Edward, and Richard. Besides her daughter, she leaves many nieces and nephews as well as great, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday July 11 from 9am-10:30am with an In-House service starting at 10:30am at the Czelusniak Funeral Home, 173 North Street Northampton, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, N Elm St & Hatfield St Northampton.

So sorry to hear this! She was a very pleasant woman who married my ex and I in 1981at City Hall. She also conducted a ceremony for my brother and his wife in 1978. My father took a wonderful picture of her at my brother´s ceremony! I remember it but not sure if I can find it but will try to find it. My sincere condolences to her family. She made a mark on Northampton through her work and will be fondly remembered.

It is so sad to learn of Aunt Adeline's passing. She was actually my great aunt, being my mother's aunt. Aunt Adeline was such a nice woman, and was known by so many , especially in Northampton. And she was definitely sharp as a tack, her whole life. Even at 103 years old ! I loved running into her at the grocery stores ,or even the post office, and chatting with her. Sometimes I would see her daughter and ask "where's Mom,?" who would happen to be just sitting in the car waiting. I always would find her in the parking lot, to say hello. And she always knew who I was ! She was just the sweetest woman. This is a huge loss for our family, and for Northampton. She will be missed by so many. Rest in peace, Aunt Adeline. Reunited in heaven with Uncle Leon, and both sides of your families. My heart goes out to you, Andrea. You are in our thoughts. Sending strength and love your way.
