James Griswold Obituary
Lebanon, NH - James Everett Griswold, 90, died peacefully at his home on Monday, July 14, 2025. He was born on March 24, 1935, to parents Clifford Young and Beatrice (Tobin) Griswold in Etna, NH.
In his teenage years, his passion for automobiles began to form into a career. For more than 60 years, his skill in auto body repair and painting earned him a reputation in the Upper Valley. Over the years he worked at Jasmin, Griswold's Garage (with his brother), Shaker Valley, and Gateway until he eventually began working for himself out of his garage. By then, word of mouth was all the advertising he needed to keep him busy.
He is survived by his stepson Bert (Cicely) Merchant of Ridgeland, SC; one brother Dan Griswold of Lebanon, NH; his son James Young Griswold (Wendy) of White River Junction, VT; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sonya Griswold, daughter Jennifer Reed, stepson Andrew Merchant, and six siblings David, Clifford "Mickey", Betty, Ellen, Anna, and Donald.
A private service will be held.

jim is the grandfather of my daughter morgan. she adored him as a young girl. she told me once when i went to get her, daddy i know what i want to be when i grow up i said what honey, she said i want to do autobody like grampa.......now that says alot. she was always out in the garage with him. they bonded. and my relationship with that part of morgan's family was strained to say the least but jim and i got along well. i respected the man and really liked him. he got 90 years outta this life and he deserved it.......R.I.P. jim.......jack towne farmington ,maine
