Beth Fernandez Obituary

Beth Wyman Fernandez

Thetford, VT - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth "Beth" Wyman Fernandez of Thetford, Vermont, who left us peacefully on July 13, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Beth's life was a testament to love, family, and community.

Beth was born on May 26, 1952 in Claremont, New Hampshire. She was the daughter of Robert A. Wyman and Barbara Slade Wyman and granddaughter of William Slade and Rose Slade, carrying forward a rich family heritage based in Thetford. Beth held dear memories of her childhood summers spent at the Brick House, a tradition that connected her to the heart of her family's history.

Beth's passion for learning led her to pursue education at Bennington College and Middlebury College, and culminated in a graduate degree from California State University - Los Angeles. These academic pursuits laid the foundation for a life filled with intellectual curiosity and engagement.

For many years, Beth and her husband of 41 years, Michael Fernandez, made their home in California. They eventually returned to Beth's cherished family home in Thetford, a place deeply rooted in her ancestry. The Slade family's legacy in Thetford spans over 200 years. Notably, one of Beth's ancestors, William Slade, served as the 17th Governor of Vermont.

Upon returning to Vermont, Beth dedicated herself to her community. She was a valued Board Member of the Latham Library, the Thetford Hill Village Improvement Society, and the Thetford Water Co-Op. Beyond her civic contributions, Beth and Mike shared a profound love for animals, caring for hundreds of dogs over the years.

Beth's memory will be forever cherished by her devoted husband, Michael; her loving children, Laura, Robert, and Michael; and her dear brother Bob Wyman. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Beth was a great friend to me and my boxer, Gus. He loved both Beth and Mike, as I know they did him. Knowing Gus was safe and loved when I was away was truly a blessing. Reading of her accomplishments and devotion to her community is inspiring, though not surprising. My heart goes out to Mike, Laura, her sons and brother.

With love,

David and Gus
