David Young Obituary

David Young

Concord, NH - David Bruce Young, 88, of Concord, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Born on June 17, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dave was the son of Clarence and Dorothy (Wetmore) Young. He graduated from Technical High School in Springfield, Massachusetts, and continued his education, earning a BA in Management from the University of Massachusetts and an MA in Human Resources Development from American International College.

In 1959, Dave married the love of his life, June Wyman Regan. That same year, he embarked on a distinguished 42-year career with Friendly's. Starting as a restaurant manager trainee, he rose through the ranks to become the Head of Training & Development, leaving a lasting impact on the company.

Dave was deeply involved in his community and church, generously sharing his leadership skills on various projects and committees. Upon retirement, Dave and June relocated to New Hampshire, first settling in Contoocook before moving to Concord. He loved spending time at their cottage on Lake Blaisdell, where one of his favorite traditions was meeting his best friends and in-laws, Bruce and Gail Ellsworth, along with any family visiting that weekend, for Saturday breakfast.

He was a remarkable role model to his family, friends, and colleagues, always professional, an attentive listener, and a source of wise counsel. Dave was known for his impeccably dapper wardrobe and his beloved collection of "crazy socks," which he delighted in showing off. A passionate and die-hard Red Sox fan, he was thrilled to witness their four World Series victories but, like all true Sox fans, always eagerly anticipated the next one.

Above all, Dave cherished his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, June; his daughter, Amy Young, of Feeding Hills, MA; his son, Andrew Young, of Dorchester, MA; his sister-in-law, Gail Ellsworth, of Hopkinton; his nieces and nephews, Melissa (Ellsworth) Jones, Jeffrey Ellsworth, Karen Prescott, Lisa Todd, and Brian Young; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Bill, and his brother-in-law, Bruce Ellsworth.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Hopkinton, NH, on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. June, Andy and Amy, please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of Dave. We will forever treasure the memory of our visit to Lake Bleasdale with our son Paul, who you accepted into your family when he lived in Boston which was of great consolation to us.

I have warm memories of working with Dave, especially on the Commission on Ministry, his commitment, kindness, integrity and sense of humor. He was a special person who has left us better for knowing him

I enjoyed working with Dave on RDCs and the Commission on Ministry, but my special memory is working with him on rewriting one of the church canons, and how sensitive and attentive he was. He was a caring, kind man and his passing has left a gap that won´t be filled.

I got to know David & June from St. Andrew´s some 25 years ago. Lovely people. David was a wise sage in all respects with a quick wit and a self deprecating manner. Great stories especially the one about why Mr. Blake refused hotdogs @ Friendly´s.
When we met in 1999 he said he was from Wilburham Massachusetts. I responded "Home of Friendly´s Ice Cream." He smiled and his life saga started!
I told him that my first paycheck job when I was 15 years old was the store in Winchester Massachusetts. He knew the store´s # and that it was a manager training location. I told him that I was well aware as I was the only guy there that apparently WASN´T a manager in training!
I really liked David a lot. That´s not something I get to admit about people I´ve met that aren´t old friends from back in the day! Rest well my friend! You are truly missed!

Dave Young and I became close friends 70 years ago at Umass. We were Kappa Sigma brothers, and we kept in touch all these years. I am very sad to read of his passing. He had been informing me how his treatments were going well so his passing comes as a very large shock. God Bless you and your family Dave. I will miss you. Brother Bob Stoddard

Dave was the ideal model of a Training and Development Professional . I shared a parallel administrative role with Dave for many years as an HR Director at Friendly s . We worked together both in Headquarters and in the field with restaurant operations . He was honest , hard working , and dedicated to both the company and his profession . Nothing but positive thoughts when I think of Dave Young . My sincere sympathies to June and his children . May he rest in Eternal peace.
