Richard Sawyer Obituary
West Lebanon, NH - Richard P. Sawyer, Jr., of West Lebanon, NH passed away after a long illness, on Monday, February 2, 2026. Born in Woodsville, NH on July 17, 1950, he was the loving son of the late Richard P. Sawyer Senior and Marguarite "Peggy" Douglas. He and his four siblings grew up on the family farm in Woodsville.
Rick attended the University of New Hampshire and Plymouth State University, receiving a degree in Education. After college, Rick served in the Army and travelled to many places including spending time in Germany.
While working for the Valley News, Rick met the love of his life Jean Mason, who he married in 1994. After leaving the Valley News, he began a career as a Custodial Supervisor at Dartmouth College where he remained until he retired.
Rick was an avid collector and enjoyed buying and selling baseball cards and coins.
Rick will be missed deeply by his beloved wife of 31 years, Jean Sawyer and her family, his two remaining sisters, Faye Ward & Dorothy Woodworth and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Betsy McKean, and his brother Carl "Skip" Sawyer.
A graveside service and celebration of life will be held for Rick in the Spring.
