Although I didn't know him directly and only through my then husband who served with him in Iraq, I always heard funny comments in the background, and heard great stories about this young man. My ex husband often reflected what a great, "kid," he was and he will forever be missed. Here's to you, Jack, thank you, thank you for your greatest sacrifice so that we are free. May God continue to hold your soul in the palm of His Hand.

It has almost been 5 years and I still really miss you. Not a day goes by that i don't think about you and it's just remembering those times a long time ago at grandma and grandpas or things at chirstmas. it doesn't feel like it has been this long but it has and it's hard to believe. for awhile i thought it was just a bad dream and i couldn't wake up but then in school the next day we were talking about war and i had to just walk out of the room. i realized i was never going to wake up from this horrible dream...i would give anything just to see you again and hopefully someday i'll get that chance. i love you

Hennessy's, though it has been a long time since Jack was dominating the pool at MB2, it does seem like yesterday to me. I drive by your house on my way to my parents house, see the star in the window, and remember. As an Army veteran, I am thankful for the sacrifice Jack and you have made. I still picture Jack doing "can-openers" off the high dive. I'll be running in the Soldier Field 10 mile in May, and will have Jack on my shirt along with two others. Not forgotten. Best,

He and so many others made the ultimate sacrifice so we can do things like vote. No matter who wins tommorow, God Bless the USA and all who protect it. Jack, you are my hero and not a day goes by that I don't think about you. Thank you again for your heroism & bravery.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jack, but I am remembering

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear family of Sgt. Jack T. Hennessy,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

God I still miss you so much. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I think of you still. How I pray to God that you will hear me speaking to you still. I love however that I have a wonderful image of you in my mind- that goofy laugh & beautiful smile... and the jokes- you always were a comedian, never a dull moment. Well I am a bit early but I wanted to wish you happy 25th, just a few days away.

To the Hennessy Family;
I didn't have the honor of knowing your son, but I heard about him from his friend, Kyle Jordan. I keep his Memorial card on the mantle of our home, along with all of my sons things. My son served with Jack in Iraq. We were blessed by God with him returning home from Iraq, only to lose him in a car accident with a High School friend when he came home on leave.
I cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. I was very impressed with what Kyle told me about Jack, and I wish that I could have met him, and shook his hand, then give him a big hug for serving our country with pride. I know the pain that you feel, and I wish that no other families have to feel that pain again!
God Bless you, and keep you, with his arms around you in your sorrow. I have two "Blessing Rings" that are on our mantle as well. I have strung on these rings all of the hundreds of cards and letters from family, friends and even strangers- expressing their sympathy for our loss. I take these down and read them, and they are really a blessing, because they remind me of how much Dustin meant to so many people, not just his Mom. You should do the same for Jack.
Respectfully yours,
Margaret Gibson

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Jack,

I am sorry for taking so long to write this. I guess I was just scared....scared that when I wrote this I would realize I didn't live up to the promise I made you that day. It's so hard to live up to those standards. I know it sounds dumb but in a way I feel like the guy from the movie 'Saving Private Ryan' in the last scene.

I don't go to your neigborhood much anymore, but every time I do, I drive by your parents house and pray for them and yoru sister.

Your Friend,

He is a great inspiration and i will never ever forget him and our fun memories

I never met Jack Hennessey. My son, Grant, came to know and like Jack through his friendship with Jordan, the brother of Jack's close friend Joe.

I became very distraught when a friend called to tell me of Jack's passing, and that I should contact my son to let him know. I called Grant right away and he then left work promptly to reflect on Jack. We both experienced a strong sense of personal loss.

Jack graduated from the same high school, Naperville Central, as our two children. Although I didn't know Jack, I imagined that he must have been just like so many other Naperville kids that have passed through our house. So, in that sense, I feel like I did know Jack, especially when my son told me more about him and how much he enjoyed being around him.

Jack must have been an outstanding soldier to have been promoted to sargeant at such a young age. He must have been very brave and capable and efficient.

Jack's tragedy was my first personal connection with the high cost of freedom after 9-11.

Without people like Jack Hennessey, the rest of us would not enjoy the blessings of freedom and the right to pursue happiness in our own way. I thank God for Jack Hennessey and so many others like him who have volunteered to stand tall on freedom's watch.

I am also very grateful to Jack's parents. To the rest of us, Mr. and Mrs. Hennessey gave the very best they had.

I think of Jack and his family often. I will not forget Sgt. Hennessey. His courage and commitment are an inspiration.

May God bless Jack and the Hennessey family.

Jack, not a day passes that i don't think of you and the things i might have changed that night which may have given a better outcome. As a Drill Sergeant now, i use you and your memory to motivate the soldiers of tommorrow to achieve what they don't see as possible. You are what a soldier should be, from y our stagger to your speech. I saw you come up from a fresh private to one of the most dedicated NCO's this Army has ever had. Your passing was not just a loss to your family and friends, but a loss to this country as well. Without a doubt, you would have gone on to do great things in this Army. I love you brother......I miss you, and i am deeply sorry for that evening. Please continue to watch down upon us and keep your blessed hand beneath us and when danger nears, lift us up towards you and protect us........WidowMaker1

I had the good fortune to have work with Jack teaching little kids gymnastics. He had a special ability to relate to the kids and bring a smile to there faces. They always wanted him to do flip flops, front bunches and arials. He never let them down. He was a very talented young man with a bright future. He loved life and people and always had a smile. October 1st will always be remember as a day we lost a wonderful young man that made a difference in the world.

Family and Friends of Sgt. Jack T. Hennessy,

I had the great honor of serving with Jack in Iraq. I had met him a few months earlier at Ft. Hood while attending a marksmanship course. I was in 1/9 Cav with him for a few years but we never spoke. We spent about a week together getting to know eachother, from that day on I considered Jack to be a close friend.

While in Iraq I had been assigned to Jack's squad for numerous patrols. Before we would head out and when we would return Jack and I would always make a point to find eachother and ensure we were both ok. I will always remember his playful smile, his dedication, but above all his loyal friendship.

Jack, I miss you greatly Buddy. There isn't a day that goes by that we all dont think about you. You will never be forgotten, Thank you for everything.

I'll see you on the High-Ground.

I am 31 who joined the United States Army National Guard late. When I turned 30, I resolved to challenge myself more and make my dreams and goals come true, no matter how tough. I also wanted to make a difference and to do great things. People ask me all the time why I joined bec. I have a good civilian job in the Investment field... I've heard a lot of mixed opinions. My reasons are personal and some reasons I can't even explain. I feel that part of joining the service is a calling, much like priesthood or nunhood. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Sgt. Hennessy but my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. I know he is looking down upon us with great pride. Hooah soldier! I am proud of you and I love you!!!

And I thank you for your sacrifices. My friends in the armed forces still Iraq and Afgahnistan, hang tight and we are proud of your courage and bravery. God bless you all....

Heartfelt sympathy to your family at the loss of Jack. We recall him from earlier times---the days he and my daughter Liz spent at Lincoln and Naperville Central. He was an outstanding young man of strong character and he will be greatly missed. May you find peace.

Jack Hennessy has made a wonderful impression on me through my friend Conor Taft. Conor looked up to Jack and was a wonderful role model he told me stories every time I saw him. I hope your family is strong for him...Jack

Nothing can be written to express the emptiness that will be in all of us. Jack was such a hard working, "go getter" that used humor and practical jokes to ease tensions and frustrations. He set his sights on something, achieved it, and then moved on. He was a pleasure to have around and it was an honor to have been a part of his life. Jack always found time out of his busy to come to the gym and visit and ask about the family. I will miss his humor and stories that he would share. He was an example to us all and a credit to the Hennessy family.
