Kevin Prince Obituary

PRINCE Specialist Kevin William Prince, 22, State Route 19, Mount Gilead, was killed Saturday morning, April 23, 2005 while on patrol in a roadside bombing in Al Haswah, Iraq. Kevin was born July 13, 1982 in Canton to Ronald Robert and Susan J. (Martin) Prince, and was raised in Plain City, where he attended Jonathan Alder Schools. A soccer player since age five, Kevin also ran cross-country while in school, and worked part-time in his parents' Plain City business: Main Street Bagel & Deli. Kevin was a quiet, loving son and brother, who loved playing video games and watching movies, and had recently developed a keen passion for reading. Sensing a need to change direction for his life, Kevin enlisted with the U.S. Army in 2001, with the purpose of heading to college. He was graduated from boot camp on October 11, 2002 at Fort Benning and headed to Fort Irwin, California to join the Army's 2nd Division, 11th Armored Cavalry, nicknamed the Black Horse – Echo Troup. His group was responsible for training others in the Mohave Desert, to prepare them for Operation Freedom. Principally, Kevin was responsible for operating a Bradley transport, and was shipped to Iraq on January 9, 2005. Just before leaving, he communicated to his family that he had bought a Bible to take with him. An excellent marksman, Kevin was not one to complain - well, perhaps about sleep deprivation - but he was always up to a challenge. Kevin had a comic and irreverent side, part of his rascal nature, and was a bit of clotheshorse, too. Proud to be serving his country, Kevin just wanted to come home. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Kelly Howick and Robert Mockler of Los Angeles, California; his brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Ember Prince of Galloway; his maternal grandparents, William and Evelyn Martin of Hartville; his paternal grandmother, Ruth Miller of Canton; aunts and uncles, Carole and Rich Frazee and Jayne and Lon Slabaugh, all of Hartville, Rick and Susan Prince of Washington, Steve and Judy Miller of Ontario, Cathy and Dennis McDonnell of Lodi, Mike and Helen Miller of Virginia; cousins, including Patrick, Angie, Lori, Shanese, Nicole and Morgan Slabaugh; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Rollman Prince. The Lexington Avenue SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, Mansfield, will announce funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions to the SPC Kevin William Prince Memorial Scholarship Fund may be made at the funeral home.

My son was with Kevin and pulled security when Kevin was killed. My son also from Union County. My heart still grieves the loss of Kevin. My son says he was a great guy and he wanted to make sure Kevin's remains guy back to they're home, The Buckeye State. I've always wanted to meet his family but I've always felt guilty that they both didn't come back safe & sound. Our love and prayers to his family for his ultimate sacrifice. He was a true hero. Kevin I want you to know the impact you had on our family. Your sacrifice was not in vain. My son was with you the day you were killed. You were special to him cause you were both from Ohio and Union county. We lived in Richwood. Only God knows how you both ended up together in Ft Irwin 2/11 armored calvary. I want you and your family to know that my son came home safe but with severe PTSD due to traumatic events that incurred to all his brothers. He pulled security that day to make sure you returned to your family. He is sorry that he did not save you, his Ohio brother. We want your family to know that my son is recovering and now is getting his masters in rehabilitation and human services to dedicate the rest of his life to veterans at the Va suffering from PTSD. In your memory Kevin. He misses his brothers and we ask that you watch over him while he pursues his life that is now dedicated to Heroes like you. He hopes to make you proud that he is honoring your sacrifice to help save others. You are his true hero and inspiration. Someday I hope to meet your Mother to hug her and let her know that her sons sacrifice ultimately saved my sons life when he returned from the war. Kevin our family will always have your memory in our hearts. I wish I could have met you. I hope this gives your family some comfort. God Bless. A soldiers mother.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Prince Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Thank you for helping to keep us free....you are a true American Hero and you will never be forgotten. We have a beautiful painting of you in our living room and Teagan knows that is her Uncle Kev. Kev,
I can't believe it's been 6 years since I last talked to you. The last time we saw you is still so clear to me. Even in spirit, you still mean a lot to me and my family. Juliette will always hear about her "Uncle" Kevin. She's a year old now, and I know you would have loved to meet her. She already has a video game controller! I'm also keeping my promise to you and making sure your legacy is never forgotten. I tell all my students about you, what you did for our country, and the inspiration you had on my life. You will never be forgotten. We miss you.

Ahh Kevin, you were my best comrade growing up - really my only comrade. You and I spent so, so many hours being buds, hanging out, playing video games, and chatting on the phone. I remember when I met you in 5th grade for the first time - you were the new kid at school and you had all of these really cool Marvel comic cards. We starting chatting and the rest was history.

I'm still very saddened that you're gone, but I know in the time spent while you were here, you were awesome. You were one of the few really solid people that I knew. My memories of my childhood and early adult life would not be complete without many fun, meaningful images of you. Thank you for being who you were and thank you for being my best friend for many years of my life. You're awesome, Kevin! You will always be remembered!

Dear Kevin,

It has been 5 years ago today that you have left us for Heaven fighting for our freedom and our lives. You are the bravest hero and best guardian angel for us; although I would give up at least 20 years of my life if you could be on Earth for just a little more time. That's the way I love you, Kevin, and I have numerous memories of rocking you to sleep. Then later on, having fun together with Kelly, Jason, and Joe. You are loved and missed more than words can say and I shall look forward to the beautiful day in heaven where we will meet again.

Wow man, I can't believe it's been 4 years already since that patrol we went on, but I remember it like it was yesterday! I can honestly say that the memories you gave me from that moment changed my life forever in a positive way. You taught me how important it is to live life to the fullest every day! I remember how we always did gate guard together at haswah in the middle of the nite and all we could talk about was how we were gonna blow our money when we got home and how we made fun of just about everybody (especially our LT's). We had alot of good times, and I promise I'll never forget them! Untill the day I see you again make sure you keep an eye on all of us down here, love always, Victor Camarillo.

Kevin,
I think of you often and how much of a hero you are. My son, Cpl. Tyler Thompson was was one of your brothers who created a parameter with his tank to help keep you safe and secure until help arrived. He is sad that he could not bring a brother home. He talked about how funny you were and what a great soldier you were. My son got to come home safe but without his whole platoon, his brothers. He has been home 2 years now and just reenlisted to go back to the Tanker's life and make his brothers proud. I feel sad that he is leaving but I know he is carrying on for great ones like you. He will do you justice. Thank you for your sacrifice and we love you. A Tanker's Mom for life. God Bless

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Kevin, but I am remembering on
this day he gave his all.
He is my hero.
