Just had a few chuckles today thinking about times you, my sister and I have shared many many years ago at our house and walking around the neighborhood. Those stories you would share about you and your sister kept us all laughing for hours on end. I know you two shared a special bond, as you did with your mother as well. Now, it is my prayer that I too, as you have done, get to see those streets paved with gold, saints of old and most of all, Jesus Christ the Lord of all!

"sorrow not, even as others which have no hope...for (this is our HOPE) the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together WITH them (those that went on before us) in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." 1st Thessalonians 4:13-18 (KJV)

The years have past and I am on another deployment with other young soldiers whose lives are sacrificed and there are no words to describe the feeling of when you are so close to someone whose life ended without expecting it. I will forever miss Marcus and hope that one day I will be able to think about it and smile along with my tears. I love your Cheryl and Shae. If my grief is still lingering I can only imagine what your grief must be as time passes without such a wonderful person that Marcus was. Continue to be strong in God.

Sometimes I sit and think about school and all of the memories. It seems like only yesterday that we were in class tripping out together and playing football in the neighborhood. It was so shocking to hear about your death, but I know God's got a special place for your in Heaven. So many things have changed over the years, but your memory lives forever!!!! My heart goes out to your Mother, Sister, Dad, and family. Love Calvin Conerly

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Marcus, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. Although Marcus was not my biological child, he was one of my children (students). I had the pleasure of having Marcus in my math class at Southwest High School. For the most part, he was a very quiet and soft spoken student but he ALWAYS wore the biggest smile. It was a smile that I'll never forget. I didn't have to see a picture to remember who he was. When I heard the name I immediately told my husband that he was my former student who was always smiling. Marcus was an upstanding young man and from my experience a model student. I am sorry for your loss BUT proud of his bravery and sacrifice. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve the loss of your son (and brother).

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

It almost seems like yesterday when I last spoke to Marcus, and it still doesn't feel like he's gone. And rightfully so, he's not gone, he's still here in our hearts. I just want to encourage everyone that knew him to take comfort in knowing that we too, can make it to that place we call Gloryland, if we surrender our all to Jesus and live a life pleasing to God.

To the family of Marcus you are and my prayers and I am so sorry for your lost.

It seems like yesterday when I met Marcus and Will (his cousin) here in Gainesville. He was just a sweet young man and he made me mad and laugh all in the same time LOL It's funny how he did that. It took me so long to get on here to sign this because I just couldn't believe that he was gone when I heard from Will and I still can't believe he is gone:-( In the short time that we knew each other I know that he was a very respectable and honorable young man and I will miss Marcus.

Family and friends remember that God is too wise to make a mistake and too just to do any wrong!

Marcus Futrell, he was a good family man, friend and was one of the homblest person ive ever known. We basically grew up together and he was closer to me than any other of my relatives(cousins) he and i looked up to each other and we always keep each other smiling. I always told him to keep his head up and never let anything bring him down while we're in Iraq together because one day this will be over and we will look back on this and laugh about our hard times in Iraq. We both said , " if its our time to go then we have to go." But we never looked foward to death and we wasnt never scared of death either. We always talked about what we was going to do when we get home and even talked about moving in together.

Even though hes gone to a better place i know he will always have a place in my heart and that he will always be smiling down on me. I will also do what we talked about when we get back home and he knows that i will always" keep it real!!!"

one love, ya cousin :

Johnny Solomon III (Solomon Family)

December 8, 2005

It seems like yesterday that we were just talking. I didn't know earlier this year when we spoke, that it would be the last time I had the opportunity to speak with him. Marcus and I (and my twin sister) have known each other since Jessie Rice Elementary, we even went to the same Middle and High Schools (McEvoy & Southwest). The thing that shall always stick with me is, Marcus was a jolly person. He loved to laugh and joke around. I will definitely miss him and his never ending stories about his sister, whom he loved dearly. My condolences go out to the Futrell Family. God will not only see you through it, he will also guide you and bring you through it.

there are no words that can ease the pain of a sudden loss like this, but if caring thoughts can help, they are with the family. God bless. our love and care.
